Slowdowns were frequent after a fairly active start. Initial declines of fractions to a point or so were trimmed or converted Into gains near the close. Transfers for the full proceedings tapered to around 1,000.000 shares. Resistant were Oeneral Motors, Chrysler, Woolworth, Republic Steel. U. 8. Rubber. American Wool en, and United Air Lines.
