Stocks Slow
Down Today
NEW YORK, April 2 W, Stocks
generally found the going a bit dif
ficult In today's market although
real pressure was lacking and as
sorted favorites managed to remain
In the plus column.
Slowdowns were frequent after a
fairly active start. Initial declines
of fractions to a point or so were
trimmed or converted Into gains
near the close. Transfers for the
full proceedings tapered to around
1,000.000 shares.
Resistant were Oeneral Motors,
Chrysler, Woolworth, Republic
Steel. U. 8. Rubber. American Wool
en, and United Air Lines.
Btragglers most of the day were
Bethlehem Steel, North American,
U. S. Oypsum, Philip Morris. Al
lied Chemical. Chesapeake li Ohio
and Paramount Pictures.
Bonds were narrow. Major com
modities suffered a late reaction.
Cotton, toward the finish, was up
7." cents a bale to off as much. At
Chicago wheat ended off to up
'4 of a cent a bushel, corn down
to 3 and oats off S to !.
