Kullawuy said that houMutt pub licity has really exaKiteraled Uie effect of prcxrnt lumber prices Uxm housing costs. "It Is rxenerally uc cepled,'' he pointed out, "that the average home requires less than 10.000 board ferl of lumber. Any change In the cot of lumber will account for only a very Miinll wrt of the difference between present and prewar housing cosu." Tlie Portlander foreAaw no relief from high co-it of housing "unless the present federal administration is willing to substantially curtail the demand by contracting credit which It Is not in nn election year." He also cited present wage levels, current labor efficiency, increased transportation charges and Inflated atumpage prices as factors contri buting to present lumber cost. Also on the morning program was Richard A. Colgan Jr., executive vice pretldrnl of the National Lumber Manufacturers aASotiatlou, Wash liiKton, U. C. Crude Oil On Export Ban WAHHINOTON, Feb. 20 ll'i The commerce department today banned the export of crude oil without a li cense to any foreign country except Canada. It waa the flrnt peacetime imposi tion of license controls on crude oils. It was also the second action In as many days to bolster scarce supplies of fuel at home by wiurez- i lug foreign receivers. j The controls allow the commerce department to say how much crude oil can be shipped out of the coun try and to whom. The department yesterday cut down on the amount of petroleum product It will permit to be shipped abroad. How much crude oil will be stopped from shipment under the new li cense control Is not clear since no export quota has yet been set. Crude oil shipments abroad have been at the rale of 7.200,000 barrels a year, exclusive of Canada, which has been getting 2.600,000 barrels a month.
