We feel sorry Uiat this contro versy ha come up and we sincerely hM Uiat till letter help to clear the air. Reviewing the case, a lew week ago a woman In the Home dale district called Clay Howard attention to a stray dog that had been around her place for two nlghu. Bhe requested Mr. Howard to come and gel said dog. This he did on finding the dug was un licensed. Shortly after he had taken possession of the animal, Mc How ard had a chance to place It In a good home. This he Also did. Then the party who claimed he was the owner of the dog contacted Mr. Howard to regain possession of the animal. We will admit Uiat It la unfortunate that Mr. Howard could not give the name and ad dress of the person who look the 'dog, and who. as fur as we know, still has It. 'Realizing hi mistake, Mr. Howard has tried to rectify It by hi honest effort to find tills dog. The fact that the animal has not. to date, been found mnkrs It one of those unfortunate Incidents that can occur when a person consclen- tlously tries to deal fairly wllh the public and still fulfill the duties of hi position. This, then, Is the dog commu nion's answer lo the Irate people who are concerned because of the way this case wa handled by Mr. Howard: and we, along wllh these people, hope Uiat the dog I soon found and returned. Bel court's letter In regard to what she terms the "Ignoble acts" of our dog catcher. I much prefer to use Die more fitting and proper term of poundmoster, I wish to state some rather "noble" actions he took In behalf of our little dog. Living only a block from a certain house, we and some of our neighbors have been hearing gunshot at night and Immediately afterwards the howling of various dogs In distress. Knowing that a female dog which should have been properly confined was being allowed to run loose at this place, and the (may I also use retained words In naming the guilty party) had bragged that he would shoot our dog next. It was only na tural to suspect he had shot our dog, and I suppose being a man of his word he shot the dog without reckoning that perhaps he had shot I a dog that had someone to love and promt him Including five children who hud raised him from a tiny pup. Not being utile lo do what we hu mans would have done In a similar situation to such a heel and coward ' he ran home In much pain for ut to defend him. In good fulth and wishing to handle the matter legally we called three different parties of authority to please come out and Investigate the shooting, but got absolutely no rrsponso or oxiieratlon of any kind. Ho a neighbor that Mr. Howard, our poundmasU-r hud helied, suggested we call him, which we did. I'll be safe In saying he was here In less than 30 minutes, found out the par ticulars and got a confession from the guilty party that he had shot jou- dog. It wa only a matter of routine until he was arrested and I brought Into court. I What more can one ask of a man iln any office? I believe when you find a man that does his duty as quickly and effectively as he, we should gel behind him and keep Mini In office. Who know what poor dog will need legal help next from these self styled Hitlers? I will not tay I have the opinions of 80 people a In our case we wanted, asked for, and re ceived results from no one but the county poundmasler now In office. This being the fact, not fiction or hearsay, let's keep him. There be ing at least three of our neighbor wholly In support of him from our experience of tho past few dnys, also not being In the habit of talking to musses of say 80 people I couldn't ; speak for the others.
