The meat Is now being cut and packaged In celophane at the Johnson Packing comnany and then sent to I he market where It Is placed in self-service cabinets. O. A. Johnson, owner, believes that Uie new method will revolutionise the meat retail business as It Is not only cheaper and more sanitary but permits the housewife to shop lei surely. Congestion at Uie meat counters has been eliminated with the removal of the usual butcher departments. The Palace market is the first store In Klamath Falls to prepare meat ready for sale at Uie packing house so Uiat the housewife can shop for It In Uie store as she does her canned goods or fresh vege tables. Johnson stated that large eastern packers, using the system, have polled housewives and five out of six of them prefer to shop for Uiemselvet. Meats are packaged In varying sites so that the housewife can still obtain the amount that she wishes. Johnson said special cuts can be purchased, by shoppers as two meat cutters are employed at the store. New fixtures have also Been added In the remodeling of Uie store. Self service containers for froien foods and vegetables have been Installed along with a U-shaued counter. The store has been owned by John son since 1911.
