Then another 12-year sep aration will start. In ancient mythology. Jupiter was the king of the gods, and ruler of heaven and earth. It was he who hurled thunderbolts at object of his wrath and caused rain to fall upon the earth. We still make re ference to the last-named attribute when we speak of "Jupiter Pluvlus." Astronomically, Jupiter is larger than all the other planet combined, and has a mas of one-thousandth that of the sun. Its diameter is 11 times that of the earth. This planet is the fifth in distance' outward from the sun, the earth being third. Jupiter's satellite system consists ot 11 known moons, which encircle lt in periods ranging from 12 hours for the closest to two years for the most distant.
