Evons Estate Set
At $10,261.32
The estate of George W. Evans,
who was killed in an automobile ac
cident May 26, amounts to 610,261.32
cash in a Klamath Falls bank, ac
cording to probate filings.
The heirs named In his will are
his sister, Hattle C. Ensley of Rose
burg, who was bequeathed half of
the estate; five nephews and a niece,
none living In Klamath Falls, who
were given the remainder of the
estate.
Evans was a lease-land operator
at Coppeck bay, in partnership with
William Harvey Ayres. His will was
dated November 9, 1945.
PROMOTED
J. R, McLellan, chief dispatcher
of Great Northern here for the past
five years, has gone to Great Falls,
Mont., where he has been promoted
to chief dispatcher for that sector.
Mrs. McLellan and their daugh
ter, Marilyn, left Monday to Join
him In the Montana city. Their
home here was at 719 Alameda. .

CH3CAOO. June 10 WV-Corn and
oat advanced sharply on the board
of trad today, after an early de
cline, but wheat was heavy and ral
lies In that pit were not sustained.
Reports of government buying, a
strong cash market and predictions
of unfavorable weather lifted com
from the days low point to well
above the previous close. Cash corn
traders reported bookings at 142.000
bushels and sales at 206.000 bushels.
The sluggishness of wheat was at
tributed to increased deliveries ot
new crop grain at terminals and a
government announcement that

Paris Railroads
Still On Strike
PARIS. June 10 (JJV-Union lead
ers refused again today to order the
700,000 striking workers of the so
cialized French railroads back to
work. The deadlock remained com
plete. v
Premier Paul Ramadier was re
ported by some sources to be con
sidering a state of siege. He wrote
the powerful communist-dominated
General Confederation of Labor ask
ing lt to state Its position regarding
the five-day rail strike and the
spreading shutdown of gas and elec
tric plants.
Remodeling Starts .
At Teen-Age Club
Work has begun on the Teen-Ase
club Headquarters at the armory for
a general clean-up and remodeling
job with Burkhart end Schortsen
doing the work at cost for the
YMCA. -
Cecil KoUenborn, YMCA executive
secretary, announced todav that he
hopes to be able to open the Teen
Age rooms soon for summer activi
ties. The Y office will be located in
the armory as soon as remodeling Is
completed.

Personnel Slashed
SEATTLE, June 10 UP) A slash
In veterans administration personnel
In Northwest states and Alaska, in
line with national policy, will cut 375
persons irom payrolls by August 1,
deputy administrator D. M. shute
announced today. At present 3794
persons are employed and those dis
missed will be given 30 days notice.

yellow light. It gradually become
brighter, and I a splendid object by
the time the sky I dark. This is
Jupiter, the giant planet of the solar
system and the brightest of all star-
like object now in the evening sky.
About five degrees from Jupiter
(west and above there I a little
star. Zubenelgenubl by-name. In
1935 the two stood so near each
other for weeks that young aky
student near Bums, Oregon, re
ferred to the dainty little star as
"Jupiter's wife.v This column stated
at that time that although Jupiter
naa oeen true to nis utue star goa
des all summer, he soon must move
eastward around the sky. "Little
Zubenelgenubl will be left alone, tor
Jupiter will not complete the circle
of the sky and again get into this lo
cality for 12 years." The 12 years
are now ended and the planet has
made a complete trio around the
sun. Because of a temporary retro
grade motion, juplter will be nearer
the little star In July than at
present. Then another 12-year sep
aration will start.
In ancient mythology. Jupiter was
the king of the gods, and ruler of
heaven and earth. It was he who
hurled thunderbolts at object of
his wrath and caused rain to fall
upon the earth. We still make re
ference to the last-named attribute
when we speak of "Jupiter Pluvlus."
Astronomically, Jupiter is larger
than all the other planet combined,
and has a mas of one-thousandth
that of the sun. Its diameter is 11
times that of the earth. This planet
is the fifth in distance' outward
from the sun, the earth being third.
Jupiter's satellite system consists ot
11 known moons, which encircle lt in
periods ranging from 12 hours for
the closest to two years for the most
distant.
Jupiter Is a most interesting sight
even in small telescopes. With mod
erate powers, the globe appears
about the size that our moon does
to the unaided eve. Across the vel-

Eisler Guilty
Of Contempt
WASHINGTON, June 10 1P
Oerhart Eisler, alleged No. 1 com
munist leader In this country,-was
convicted today of contempt ot con
gress. The federal court Jury deliberated
only 20 minutes before returning
the verdict, which carries a maxi
mum penalty ot a $1000 fine and
four months to a year Imprison
ment Judge Alexander Holtzoff set June
27 for sentencing.
Eisler was Indicted on contempt
charges tor allegedly refusing to
be sworn In for testimony before
the house committee on un-American
activities. He contended the com
mittee refused to let him read a
prepared statement before admin
istering the oath.

Slightly Injured
Jlnimie Chocktoot, 47. a Klamath
Indian from Beatty, was slightly
Injured shortly after midnight when
he was struck and knocked to the

street viaduct.
