Volma Fox returned to BUverton with them to spend part of her school vacation with her ' grandmother. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Arnold made a trip to Seneca. Ore., last week, to vUlt their son, his wife and their granddaughter. The Presbyterian Missionary so ciety met at the home of Mrs. Velton Slasklns. Mrs. Paul Lewis led the evotionals, Mrs. Campbell of Rose- fcurg, presbyterial president, was at the meeting and gave the group some interesting and Instructive In formation. John O'Nell and Claude Shuck are owners of a new type fishing boat. They plan to give it a trial run on Odeu lake soon. A previously planned picnic- was postponed because of the ftclement weather and tentative flans were discussed for a rummage atale to be held in the fall. ' This was tha last meeting for the season. The remodeling job done for the rental of the building for the ju venile grange youngsters a meeting place, consisted of strengthening and rebuilding of the superstructure under the roof which had deterior ated by roof leakage, a new rauared celotex celling, walls and vestibule repapered and floors sanded and kitchen and all woodwork painted. Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Cloud re turned last 8unday evening from up ac josepn, or., in wauowa county where they visited their son. Ernest Cloud and family. Ernest, who worxea aunng me war as a ma chinist down at Valleio. Is now help ing with the construction work of the new Brldgewater sawmill being constructed there. Carrol and Amy Cloud took their new truck to Val lejo for Ernest's furniture which mey will move to josepn. There will be a regular meeting of the East Side grange this Satur day evening. Ernest Robnett. Darvin Robnett, Lee perry and Johnny Thompson last week completed the tearing down of four government houses at the Tulelake Jap camp and hauling them home to their respective ranches, each getting a house. Other ranchers who have purchased build ings at Tulelake are Rallelgh Good man and Howard Wells. Seventeen of the East Side Youth club members motored to Bend last Sunday morning to attend the statf grange convention there on Monday and Tuesday. They attended the youth party on Sunday night and the youth supper on Monday night. There were nine mem bers present and one guest, Mrs. Gladys Porter. Strawberry short cake, ice cream, punch and coffee were served for refreshments. The Raspy Hour club met June S with hostess Thelma Butler with 12 members and six children present. Mrs. Fannie Fisher gave a report of her trip to Pendleton and exhibited aom of the crickets from Ordnance, Ore. Clara Cloud reported on her trip to Joseph, Ore. For the game, the club reviewed geography. The hostess began with London and the members continued by naming places that began with the last let ter oi me place given by me person just preceding.' Raymond Fisher, accompanied by his family, attended the state farm bureau meeting of the president of each unit throughout the state at Pendleton, Ore, last week, returning Sunday. ' At the Boy Scout meeting held last "Wednesday evening a special examination by the board of review conducted by Hugh Mercer and Dick Johns of Lakeview, three Scouts. Kenneth Butler, Eugene Roes and Harvey McLain. passed their second -class examination. These Scouts are now eligible to work on their first-class badge. Their second- class certificates will be awarded at the next court of honor to be held sometime in June at Lakeview. This announcement was made today by Capt. Eduardo Muxo. in charge oi me local army recruiting station. This war department extension applies to all former officers and enlisted men who make applica tion for a three-year enlistment on or before June 30, the captain explained, regardless of the length of time since their release from the army. Former enlisted person nel who apply after June 30, must do so within 20 days from the date of their discharge In order to re tain their rank. Former warrant officers or flight officers, partially disabled in com bat, Muxo said, will also be eligible to reenter the army on a three year enlistment as a first or mas ter sergeant until June 30. After that date. aoDlicatlons must be made within 20 days from the last day of their terminal leave. Captain Muxo emphasized that numerous technical positions In the peacetime regular army can be filled by competent veterans even though they were partially disabled In combat. With this in mind, the war ' department has granted an extension to these qualified men.
