Home Extension Unit iTc ws Midland The Midland home extension unit mot at the home of Mrs. John Mistier on January 21, with Mrs. W. K. Gillen conduct ing the demonstrating "Color in the Home." Many helpful end enlightening ideas were brought forth on how to furnish the home. Such as selecting the proper colors in drapes, chairs, floor coverings, pictures and walls and matching them prop erly. After the demonstration the business was called to order by the chairman, Mrs. Lee Sutton. The February meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Joe Milani with Mrs. George An dricu demonstrating "Bread Baking." At the close of the meeting refreshments were served by the hostess Mrs. Mist ier to Mrs. Gillen, nine mem bers and five children. Bonanta The Bonanza extension unit met at the home of Mrs. Fred Rucck January 14 with Mrs. Edmund Gowen and Mrs. Henry Schmor demonstrating "Better Bread Buklng." They made cheese and peanut butter rolls, also a loaf of whole-wheat bread and rolls and served them with luncheon. A business meetine followed the luncheon. The next meeting will bo held February 12 at the home of Mrs. Benson Dixon. The subject will bo "Color in tlie Home," demon.' strated by Mrs. V, K. Gillen. Altamont Mrs. Walter Uppeiidnhl and mrs. uan lYlnuifc gave a very in teresting demonstration on mak ing bread and rolls at the meet ins held at the homo of Mrs. C. C. Crawford. Both women are very successful bread makers and are frequently asked to fur nish rolls for the luncheons. Mrs, Uppendahl was the leading dem onstrator on the sweet roll project and also had a very in teresting demonstration' on vari ous kinds of salads last year. She has been active In community work having taken nurse's aid and Red Cross aid training. She was an instructor when the Red Cress bandages were being made. She is serving a second t ' . k. Fairhavan "Color in the home" was the topic discussed at the Falrhaven home extension unit meeting on January 15. with Mrs. Winnifrcd Gillen leading tho discussion. various color combinations were shown, with numerous samples oi wan paper, drapery, rug and upholstery materials. Especially interesting-were tho hand-made pictures carrying out the color scheme used In the room. Mrs. Percy Cook, chairman of the unit,, was hostess to the group of ten at her home. At tending for the first time this year were Mrs. E. R. Roberts and Mrs. A. L. Loomis. Mrs. Loomis is a past president of the unit, and the next meeting, ureaci HaKing," led by Mrs. Melvin Gallaspy and Mrs. How ard Holliday, will be held at her home on February 19. Mrs. Ralph Bower, finance chairman, reported that $62 has been turned in to the county committee as Fairhaven's con tribution to the Co-Op house in Corvallis. This money was do nated to the unit for the pur pose of helping finance the house by various business firms in the Fairhaven district.
