Umpqua Sales Top Million Timber sales totaling $1,165, 240 In value were awarded to successful timber bidders during 1047 on the Umpqua national forest. The total volume In volved 188,818,000 feet of Douglas fir, pine and other spe cies, according to a report pre pared by M. M. Nelson, forest supervisor. The average price per thousand feet was $8.24. while the highest price bid was $13.55 for pine species on a sale near Diamond lake, made to the Klamath Lake Moulding com pany. The sales made during 1048 far exceeded the amount actual ly cut duringtthe year, which in dicates a trend of the lumber in dustry into the southern Oregon district.
