successful timber bidders during
1047 on the Umpqua national
forest. The total volume In
volved 188,818,000 feet of
Douglas fir, pine and other spe
cies, according to a report pre
pared by M. M. Nelson, forest
supervisor. The average price
per thousand feet was $8.24.
while the highest price bid was
$13.55 for pine species on a sale
near Diamond lake, made to the
Klamath Lake Moulding com
pany. The sales made during 1048
far exceeded the amount actual
ly cut duringtthe year, which in
dicates a trend of the lumber in
dustry into the southern Oregon
district. Several of the operators
who purchased timber have been
