Budget Director George Aiken told the committee the liquor committee s profit estimate is too low because its business has been increasing steadily, and he thinks the profit will be twice that of last year. The liquor commission thinks profits might even drop below last year's. The unemployment compen sation bills, endorsed bv both the AFL and CIO, would In crease the maximum benefits from $360 to $650 in any one year, eliminate the one-week waiting period for benefits to begin, and bring virtually all employers under the act. which now is limited to employers of four or more persons. The proposed benefits would be $25 a week for 26 weeks in any one year. Present benefits are $18 a week for 20 weeks. State aid for foster homes would be doubled by a bill in troduced todav in the senate. The joint education commit tees held the legislature's first public hearing yesterday, the subject being how to distribute to school districts the $15,000, 000 annual basic school support fund voted last November. Hueh Estes. leader, and Vern Keller, 12, president, took the boys on a short warm-up hike when the campfire died, after which they all went to the gym nasium where wrestling and socker games completed the eve ning. The next meeting of the group will be held next Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 at Conger. The Gra-Y club is the gram mar school group of the YMCA, composed of boys between the ages of nine and iz. Semon Criticizes State Car Use SALEM, Jan. 22 UP) Rep. Henry Semon, Klamath Falls, said yesterday that too many state cars are being driven over the state. Budget Director George Aiken said there is an increasing de mand for more transportation facilities by state departments. Nye. , Britain Okays Burma Move LONDON, Jan. 22 (At Britain has agreed conditionally to the incorporation of the frontier provinces of Burma within the independent Burma state now being created, a government source said today. The conditions stipulated will safeguard the rights of the people living In those frontier prov inces, he said, because they are not in the same stage of develop ment as the inhabitants of the rest of the country. Britain had planned originally to partition the 260,000-square-mile country. The frontier prov inces were to have continued un der colonial administration. The present decision to incorporate the frontier provinces thus repre sents a reversal of policy. Prime Minister Atlee and Brit ish cabinet ministers conducting the independence talks with the Burmese delegation in London are "satisfied" with the progress so far made, the government source said. Brownies To Tour Business A program of tours through local business houses was started for the Fairview Brownies last week with a visit to the Klamath Flower shop. The Brownies, a group of pre-Girl Scout age sec ond grade girls, learned about growing flowers for florist use, care of them through refrigera tion, and the makeup of corsages ! ana oouquets. Tours of creameries, bakeries and so forth for the group are planned by Mrs. J. Martin Adams, leader, for the ensuing weeks. The Brownies are spon sored by the Jayceettes. Jan. 22 (At The U, S. claims commission is Investigat ing claims against the allies for bomb damage to Vatican state property at Cartel Ciiindulfo and the little republic of Sun Marino, it was learned today. While the Vatican listed prop erty damage at approximately 170,000,000 lire, the tiny repub lic in east-central Italy petitioned for unspecified . "relief" from "woeful damages to the republic of San Marina." It was not clear whether the Vatican clulm wus computed on the former official rule of 100 to the dollar or the current rate of 225. At the former rate the total damage If paid would amount to $1,700,000. At the new value It would he $755,580.
