Tacoma Doctor Shot To Death J TACOMA, Dec. 19 W) Shot by an unknown assailant, the body of Dr. John R. Thompson, 78, a physician and optometrist was discovered by his daughter hortly after S o'clock last night In the doctor'i downtown office. No weapon wai found, but po lice laid the physician had been hot through the head and abdo men. The spent bullets were found on Kie ante-room floor. The daughter, Mabel Thompson, discovered the body after be coming alarmed at her father's failure to return to their home at Puyallup. When Dr. Thompson did not answer his telephone, Miss Thompson and some friends drove to Tacoma and found the body on the office floor. There were no signs of a struggle and the doctor's money belt was in tact. Police said it was not imme diately possible to determine if any of the office cabinets had been disturbed. Dr. Thompson had practiced In Tacoma for 22 years after moving here from Iowa. Coast Guard Man Still Mum After Named Heir Being PORTLAND, Ore., Dec. 19 VP) Lt. (jg) Donald S. Talfourd, career coast guard officer here who apparently is the long-lost heir to a $50,000 estate, still isn't talking to anyone about his pre-Christmas good fortune. The 40-year-old bachelor de clined any statement to report ers yesterday when asked about a Buffalo, N. Y., announcement by Public Administrator Samuel Sapowitch that he was "quite satisfied" Lt. Talfourd was the son of 94-year-old Alexander Talfourd. The nonagenarian died last week, a broken-hearted man after failure to locate his only heir, who he said he deserted in Billings, Mont, more than 30 years ago. Sapowitch reported he had telephoned Lt. Talfourd, and said, "I told him on the phone that I was quite satisfied he was the man we were searching for." Talfourd was quoted as saying he was deserted by his father at Billings and was reared at Seattle. Sapowitch said he asked the officer to remain in Portland until legal problems were cleared up in connection with the estate. Internal Revenue Men To Be Here Deputy collectors of Internal revenue will be in Klamath county in January to assist farm ers with the filing of their dec larations of estimated tax for the year 1946. The schedule follows: Klamath Indian Agency, Janu ary 7. Malin, January 8. ' Klamath Falls, January 13-18, inclusive. ' It is expected the revenue men will make -headquarters in the courthouse -here. Nazi Doctors Face Atrocity Trial - NUERNBERG. Germany. Dec 19 (JP) An affidavit read at the trial of 23 German doctors today asserted that hundreds of inno cent men and women were killed in concentration camps so their bodies could be used for the Strasbourg university skele ton collection and similar so called scientific projects. r-.ie affidavit was signed or Joseph Kramer, former com mandant of the Belsen concen tration camp, who since had been hanged by the British for his crimes. Kramer said he gassed and poisoned inmates of the Natz- weiler concentration camp In Stutthof so their bodies could be used for medical research. The doctors are charged with war crimes and crimes against humanity in conducting cruel experiments upon camp inmates.
