So the signers of the document not only de clared the Inde pendence of the colonies, but they gave mankind their rea sons. Consideration for public opin ion for what "people will say" can be carried to absurd and stultifying lengths. But a "de cent respect for public opinion is one of the prime factors in keeping civilized society half way civilized. I imagine there are times when most husbands want mightily to beat their wives, and wives to sneak up behind their husbands and administer a message with a club. But the decent respect forbids. There are times when we weary of the daily grind all of us and want to quit. But the decent respect forbids. We don t want to be called "yellow" and "quit ter."
