Howard said that with the coming of the automobile era many people have migrated from cities to suburban areas and mndc their homes, so that they could have more freedom in the mutter of playgrounds for chil- : drcn and gardens and could cut down the expense of living. The advent of light, low-priced curs made it possible for them to go to and from their work in a minimum of time, and a great many city workers have joined the throng of suburban ites. This has raised a serious problem, particularly in our own suburban areas,, that of drainage, sewage disposal. roads, fire protection, and our present laws are inadequate to control these matters. Howard said that Wisconsin und Michigan have very satis- fnctory legislation to govern these matters and California has some laws affecting subur ban planting that arc very good. In this stale the county com missioners arc hampered in these things because they can not do anything about it until ordered by the state legislature. Mrs. W. E.
