Groesbecks Feted Tuesday Evening At the country home of the Andrew Colliers on Tuesday evening, June 4, Chapter U of PEO Sisterhood gave a buffet dinner and musical evening honoring Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Groeabeck, who are leaving for the south. Guests were husbands of members and those participating hi the program. Mra. Warren C. Hunt was in charge of dinner arrangements. Some 63 guests were served. Order of the Eastern Star, will not meet Tuesday evening, June 11, since the grand chapter in Portland will be in session. Mrs. Culver is the former Louise Patterson, Mrs. Wallinder's sis ter. j Connor Plan For Trip Kathleen and Mary Lou O'Connor,' young daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh O'Connor of Merrill, are thrilled over the plans which they are making to accompany their uncle, Dennis O Con nor, to Ireland. Mr. O'Connor and his nelces will leave the end of June for New York and there they will book passage. Hopkins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph S. Hopkins of this city. Sharon's sorority sisters were given da.nty favors and napkins printed with her name and that of her fiance. No date has been act for the wedding The bride-elect is a graduate of Klamath Union high school with the class of 1043, and Is a freshman in liberal arts at the University of Oregon In Eugene. She is a past queen of Jobs Daughters, bethel six, and was active in high school affairs. Mr. Hopkins is also a grad uate of Klamath Union high school. At present he is sta tioned with the army medical corps assigned to the USAT President Buchanan. Sharon is expected home for summer vacation next week end. Leaving Leaving Klamath Falls this week were Col. and Mrs. Ber nard Dubel and their daughter, Rue Anne. They will make their home at Col. Dubcl's new station at Parris Island, S. C. Col. Dubel has been on leave from duties with marine corps after his return recently from overseas. He was formerly com manding officer of the Marine Barracks. Mrs. Dubel and RueAnne re mained in Klamath Falls while Col. Dubel served overseas. Entertained Mrs. Robert E. Wattenburg 219 Pine, entertained for the pleasure of members of the Art Needlework club Wednesday afternoon. Officers for the en suing club year were elected. President is Mrs. George Wirtz, Mrs. J. J. Parker is vice presi dent; and Mrs. J. F. Goelfer is secretary and treasurer. Mrs. Wilbur Jones was appointed chairman of press relations. Special guests were Mrs. Wallwork. Mrs. M. S. Biden, and Orion Wattenburg, niece of the hostess. The fortieth anniversary of the organization of the club will be observed In August at the home of Mra. Elizabeth Ramsby, according to present plans. This is the oldest social club in Klamath Falls. Mrs. Wattenburg served re freshments at 4 o clock. The table, covered with a lace cloth, was centered with a large bou quet of red peonies in a ruby glass bowl.- Oriental poppies and lilies of the valley were used about the rooms. League Adopts New Platform At the annual meeting of the Oregon League of Women Vot ers, held in Eugene May 27 and 28, a work program was adopt ed for this year consisting pri marily of the equalization of school taxation and the exten sion of youth services. The new platform for the lea gue includes the protection of civic and economic rights of minority groups, the merit sys tem, the reorganization of coun ty government, the consolida tion of school districts, increased state aid for public schools, im proved child welfare services, and improvements in state insti tutions. Anna Lord Strauss of New York, president of the National League of Women Voters, was the featured speaker at the state convention and stressed the need for the rationing of essential foods to help feed the hungry in Europe and Asia. vir s these difficult travel days. Memorial Sarvlc . Held Monday Neighbors of Woodcraft met in the KC haH, Monday eve ning. Following the business meeting a memorial service for Marie Davenport, Andrew Fol som, Nellie Woodworth, and Florence Campbell was held. Leola Thompson sang "My Task" as a part of the pro gram. Neighbor Laura Black, who spent the winter in Prine ville, plans to leave soon for Canada where she will visit a daughter. Games, awards and refreshments concluded the evening. The committee in charge was composed of Irma Miller, Eva Richardson, Effie Redkey and Amelia Jacobson. Ann and Ramona, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Reeve? are spending the month in Port land visiting relatives. Miss Strauss served as a mem ber of the United States dele gation at the first meeting of the food and agriculture organ ization and is currently a mem ber of President Truman's fa mine emergency committee. Mrs. Twyla Ferguson was elected Regional Director and is thereby a member of the State Board. Delegates from the Klamath County League of Women Vot ers were Mrs. E. K. Loosley, Mrs. R. E. Bosworth, who at tained the rank of lieutenant colonel during the last world war and who received the high est award of merit the British army bestows on officers for his work in The Netherlands in connection with public works and utilities, was guest speaker at the dinner and installation of officers held Wednesday evening, at the Pelican party Officers New officers of the Ameri can Legion auxiliary elected at the annual meeting Tuesday, June 4, were president, Mrs. H. W. Petrick; first vice president, Mrs. Douglas Vaden; second vice president, Mrs. Jack Otter bein; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. A. Petersteiner; executive com mittee, Mrs. M. E. Cooper, Mrs. Paul Otterbein and Mrs. R. D. McGhehey. Installation will be held later in the month. The date has not been set as yet. The unit is sponsoring two girls to Girls' State this year, the Girls' camp at Silver Creek Falls, near Salem, where girls are taught the principles of gov ernment. Mrs. Dorothy McCul loch Lee is one of the sponsors of this camp, and other teachers from the valley towns will be on hand. He stressed the need of an awakening of the public spirit of American citizens, of their responsibilities in keep ing tnis country great, 01 tha apathy shown when only a small number take the trouble to go to the polls and vote on matters that are the concern of everybody, or should be. The speaker told of the de plorable conditions in Tha Netherlands, how undernourish ed the citizens are. This coun try should do everything with in its power to help provida food for these suffering people, Mr. Bosworth said. Mrs. William J. Owsley, chap ter regent; presided during tha dinner, and introduced tha speaker. Mrs. Warren Hunt,, ex-regent, installed the officers for tha coming chapter year; Mrs. Ro land E.
