Plan For Trip
Kathleen and Mary Lou O'Connor,' young daughters of Mr.
and Mrs. Hugh O'Connor of Merrill, are thrilled over the plans
which they are making to accompany their uncle, Dennis O Con
nor, to Ireland.
Mr. O'Connor and his nelces will leave the end of June for
New York and there they will book passage. If they do not find
suitable accommodations by ship, due to strike conditions, the
three will fly from New York directly to County Cork, Ireland.

engagement of Sharon Lee Wlllits, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis H, Craver of 1943 Esplanade, to Ralph T. Hopkins, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph S. Hopkins of this city.
Sharon's sorority sisters were given da.nty favors and napkins
printed with her name and that of her fiance.

The bride-elect is a graduate
of Klamath Union high school
with the class of 1043, and Is a
freshman in liberal arts at the
University of Oregon In Eugene.
She is a past queen of Jobs
Daughters, bethel six, and was
active in high school affairs.
Mr. Hopkins is also a grad
uate of Klamath Union high
school. At present he is sta
tioned with the army medical
corps assigned to the USAT
President Buchanan.

summer vacation next week

from duties with marine corps
after his return recently from

The fortieth anniversary of
the organization of the club
will be observed In August at
the home of Mra. Elizabeth
Ramsby, according to present
plans. This is the oldest social
club in Klamath Falls.
Mrs. Wattenburg served re
freshments at 4 o clock. The
table, covered with a lace cloth,
was centered with a large bou
quet of red peonies in a ruby
glass bowl.- Oriental poppies
and lilies of the valley were
used about the rooms.

League Adopts
New Platform
At the annual meeting of the
Oregon League of Women Vot
ers, held in Eugene May 27 and
28, a work program was adopt
ed for this year consisting pri
marily of the equalization of
school taxation and the exten
sion of youth services.
The new platform for the lea
gue includes the protection of
civic and economic rights of
minority groups, the merit sys
tem, the reorganization of coun
ty government, the consolida
tion of school districts, increased
state aid for public schools, im
proved child welfare services,
and improvements in state insti
tutions. Anna Lord Strauss of New
York, president of the National
League of Women Voters, was
the featured speaker at the
state convention and stressed
the need for the rationing of
essential foods to help feed the
hungry in Europe and Asia.

Canada where she will visit a

Grieg. Mrs. Mitchelmore accom
panied Mrs. Fraley and Mrs.
Hornby and the latter played
the violin obligato for the sec
ond vocal number.
Mrs. C. E. McClellan reported
the DAR girl homemaker
awards were presented by Eula
lona chapter to the following
students in the county: Fair

lin; Altamont Junior high, Julia
Powell; Malin, Louise Kinkle;
Fremont Junior high, Beverly
Dalmer; KUHS, Gladys Jean

Francis Hubbs. Mrs. Noggle,
Mrs. Mitchelmore, Mrs. Wright
and Mrs. Roenicke made the
presentations.
The past regent's bar, the gift
of the chapter, was presented to
Mrs. Owsley, retiring regent,
by Mrs. Bert C. Thomas, who
voiced the feeling of the mem
bers when she congratulated
Mrs. Owsley for her most suc
cessful year's efforts in promot
ing the welfare of the chapter.
Invited guests at the dinner
