General Electric Takes Atomic Plant At Hanford For Peacetime Products RICHLAND. Wash., June 5 (AP) The Hnnford Engineer works, 8 cor in the vast machin ery which brouRht forth history's most destructive weapon, pre pared today to divert its work with atomic energy from pro duction for war to the develop ment of new products and new jobs for a peaceful world. General Electric, which dis closed it was "engaged in atom ic research for peacetime appli cation before the war," will take over operation of the project from E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company. The war department announced the change in contractors yes terday in Washington, at the lame time reporting that G. E. would operate under the same financial arrangement as did Du Pont, receiving $1 for all work. The government will retain con trol of the plant and little change is expected in the personnel, ex cept for top officials. No hint was given as to the type of products G. The watchdog at the home of William M. Patty was found dead inside the garage where thieves had pried open a door and stolen machinery valued at $735. Shortly afterwards, neigh bors reported another dog dead and a third which had been ill but recovered.
