Lambert, 36-year-old employe of the Pacific Tele phone and Telegraph company here, wus miming an Injured nose und multiple bruises in Sa lem today lifter he and his sis ter plummeted into the Willam ette river Thursday In a rented Piper Cub plune. Lambert, who lives at 303 S. Hill, had gone north to spend Memoriul Day weekend with his mother, Mrs. Marie Lumbert. Lam bert, in a conversation with his wife here today, said he was fly lug near the river when his plane suddenly struck a 66.000 volt power line, crashed into a pole nnd then dropped into the wuler. DERRAH Holiday Death Toll Mounts To New High The nation's known death toll of Memorial Day traffic and other accidents mounted to 03 today (Friday). 19 more than for the aame holiday last year. Traffic mishaps claimed the lives of SO, compared with 20 last year. The total was only seven less than the national saf ety council's prc-holiday esti mate of 57 fatalities on the high ways. He was first reported mis sing in action since May 31, 1945, when the USS Kete was due to report at Midway following a war patrol which left Guam earlier. No word has been re ceived as to the fate of the sub marine or crew and in a letter to the family signed by James Forrestal, secretary of the navy, Harold was officially declared dead as of April 1, 1946.
