Checkers Yill Resume Work PORTLAND, April 6 (P) Union and employer spokesmen mnounced today CIO checkers ind supercargoes will resume work Monday at Beaver, Ore., ammunition docks after a week s itrike The walkout idled 225 CIO afflllated longshoremen, who also will return to the job. , The back-to-work agreement hinges on renewed negotiations, which will start Monday morn ing, said R. E. Ferguson, man ager of the Waterfront Employ ers association. ' He said several weeks' deadlock resulted because "both sides tied so many reserva tions to their proposals ... but we'll make another start toward reaching an agreement." R. J. Wolf, president of the CIO local, said he thought the dispute based on a checkers' request for more pay for . hand ling ammunition was "just about settled." Roseburg Claimed Lumber Capital ROSEBURG, Ore., April B'ffl Portland lost its status as Ore gon's lumber center because of overcutting, and Eugene its suc cessor now is "completely shot" for the same reason, an Oregon and California administration of ficial asserted here. Harry I. Nettleton, O. & C. forester in charge of research, said Roseburg now is the state's lumber capital. He urged that new sawmill developments be squelched, to discourage over cutting. He always found it later, abandoned a few blocks away. Tired of keening track of the car, Guerra sold it. Two days later he got a package in the mail. It contained five dupli cate ignition keys and an un signed note reading: "Now you've sold your car, we'll have no further use for these." WELL IN HAND KANSAS CITY, April 6 W) Assistance , was needed by a tipsy sailor at a downtown street intersection and he got it in very short order. The police dispatcher sent a patrol car. Someone on the scene pulled a fire alarm and six trucks and two district chiefs sirened to the spot. In the confusion, a fireman called an ambulance. Hiller said she asked the sheriff to see that the little dog was saved until Mrs. Hiller could claim her. Gilchrist Pupils Present Comedy GILCHRIST, April 6 The comedy "Good Night Ladies, written by Edwin S. Day, was presented March 29 by the Gil christ student body at the Gil christ high school. About 300 parents and friends came to see the play. Approximately $200 was received. The curtain rose about 8 o'clock, with people, still coming in though all seats were filled long before opening time. The reaction of the audience to the concluding scene of the first act was. spontaneous approval. The second act brought "further applause from the audience. The audience rose to their feet simul taneously when the climax was reached. The parents and friends of the students presenting the comedy made many favorable comments after the play. Section Of Wrecked Tanker Said In Tow SEATTLE, April 6 (P) The navy announced yesterday that thn forward section of the wrecked Soviet tanker Donbass is about 600 miles off the Washington-Oregon coast in tow of an other itUSSinn lUUKcr, uiu gorod. The Donbass broke apart in an Aleutian gale with a loss of 15 lives. The navy said the ship is south of the normal route to Se attle but that nothing had been announced concerning changes in plans to bring the section here.
