Br HALE SCARBROUGH J Whether or not Klamnth Falls is going to be on the baseball map this summer is entirely be tide the point or mis aiscussion, J. Sooner or later, within the next three years would be a good guess, Klamath Is going to have cnanco 10 neia a piuicssionm baseball team In a recognized professional loop, the town is go. lng to nave a cnance ior aog rac ing, more football, perhaps some Outdoor fights in the summer. Where, if these things come to pass is a stadium and playing field going to be found? A look round our very crowded town will as sure you of one thing. That Mills area, out where Recrea tion field is now, is virtual ly the only centrally-located, level, accessi ble and available spot for a sports garden. The city needs only to acquire one lot out there and hang on ,to the ground already city-owned to have a field of more than eight acres for a future sports use which is going to get more and more pressing month after month and year after year. The only section of that ground not now owned by the city is owned by Mr.. Hector DeBaets and that gentleman has already expressed a willingness to swap his lot for a city-owned lot on Vine, just half a block away, if the city will just move his house to tne new location. You'll never get any more co operation than that. Even if the ground isn't used this summer, even if it's not used next fall or next winter, this corner firmly believes that ae Quirine the space and holding it. removing the lots from the mar ket, would be a move the city need never be dissatisfied for having taken. Some day either private capi tal or public is going to' fulfill Klamath's crying need for a sports field and a great portion of the fight will be won by hav ing the spot picked out and set aside beforehand. ' Now we understand Mr. De Baets wants to make some im provements on his house when ever materials are available and he can get started. If the city passes up the opportunity to make the proposed swap with him now, who would blame him tor feeling a whole lot different ly about trading after he has re modeled his home. You ex-servicemen, remember the not-so-doggone-funny -"over-seas jokes about missing boats? Well, here's one Klamath Falls would do well not to miss. 5 FIGHTS LAST NIGHT By The Associated Press PHILADELPHIA Perk Dan iels, 204, New York, outpointed Willie Thomas, 218, Philadel phia, 8. Man O' War Passes 29 Year Mark LEXINGTON, Ky., March 29 OP) Through the mythical hour glass of time, the sands of another year began flowing today for Man o' War, aged equine nobleman and pride of the blue grass country. But as "Big Red" became 29 years old the equivalent of almost a century in the life span of a human being- things just wcren t the same for the great thoroughbred. Even as he was being dis played at bamuel D. Riddle s Faraway farm near here, "The Man" seemed to sense there was something missing. And there was. Will Harbut, "Red's" Negro groom for 16 years, whose line of chatter about the horse had been heard by thousands of fans, was bedridden at his home "down the road apiece." Will, who isn't young in years any more either, suffered a stroke about ten days ago. "Law'se Ah miss that hoss," said Harbut from his bed, near which hang several pictures of him with "Big Red," his favorite subject at any time. Kahut Meets LA Battler At Portland PORTLAND. March 29 (JF) Joe Kahut, woodburn s heavy weight pride, will battle Buddy Millard, Los Angeles, over the 10-round route tonight with a date with Fitzy Fitzpatrick at stake. Even a draw will keep the ticket to Los Angeles and the Fitzpatrick bout in Kahut's hands. But a decisive win by Millard will break up the Kahut Fitzpatrick affair. Millard, ranked as third-best California heavyweight the first of the year, flashed a powerful left and neat boxing skill in workouts this week. A 10-round semi-final will send Duane Hoag, Portland against Bert White, Los Angeles. Both are featherweights. Roy Hawkins, Portland heavy weight, goes for six rounds or less with Jim Dixon, Tulsa, Okla.. in the special event. The opening six-rounder on tonight's card will pit Lightweights Leroy Durst, Longview, and Don Kenny, Portland. , Little, Ferrier Lead At Charlotte CHARLOTTE. N. C. Keneston Gains Default Over Angelo In Slugfest If Bob Keneston. is ud on his ancient history he should know that from as far back as the time when Rome and Carthage were bRttling it out a victory like the one he scored at the armory last night has been generally con sidered not worth the trouble. Keneston's paw was raised in victory over Martino Angelo after a short and furious main go, but Keneston still had to be lugged to the dressing room. From the opening gone the two huskies stood toe-to-toe and slugged away. About three minutes" of this and Angelo got a fall by way of a Boston crab. The second canto contained only a minute or so of knuckle-dusting before Keneston took a tum ble with his Gold Hill specialty. Bob took the offensive in the third frame, clouting the Italian through the ropes once and then again. Tne second time Keneston also went out to continue the battle in the aisle. Angelo clambered back .between the hemp and when Keneston start ed back in Martino gave him a shove headfirst into the corner post and back into the aisle. Bob was out flat and Referee Wally Moss completed his count of 20 with the gladiator prone on the floor. Then Keneston's second picked him up and started to drag him away. Angelo, not through yet, stuck a leg through the ropes and delivered Bob an additional kick in the teeth. That did it. Wally stepped out and awarded the decision to Keneston, to the delight of the crowd and the anguish of Angelo. The semi between Gust John son and Tony Ross teetered be tween a headlock for Gust and a hammerlock for Tony -until Ross got a fall with a grapevine and another with a slam and press while Johnson managed one with a leg strap. Frankie Clemons emulated an octopus to defeat Billy Rayburn, the only fall of the opener. Graziano Favored At Garden NEW.
