4 Americans Among 32 Prelates Elevated To College Of Cardinals Br FRANK BHUTTO AND I WILLIAM L. HYAN VATICAN CITY, Feb. 18 () Thirty-two eminent prelates, among them four Americans, were elevated to the College of Cardinals today with . churchly pomp and ceremony. . Formally, Pope Pius XII an nounced at a secret consistory of the college, attended, by 28 of the 37 existing members, the creation of the 32 new princes cf the Roman Catholic church. All but three of the 32 were in Home, and papal emissaries de livered to them immediately their biglietti, or formal notifi cations. With this notification the designess formally became cardinals. The new American Cardinals, making up with Dennis Cardinal Dougherty of Philadelphia the five Americans in the 69-Card- inal college, are: ' John Cardinal Glennon of St. Louis, dean of the group; Edward Cardinal Mooney of Detroit; Samuel Cardinal Stritch of Chicago; Francis Cardinal Spellman of New York. Princes Arrive ... ' Princes of the" church began arriving for the consistory about 9 a. m., entering the great cir cular plaza before St. Peter's church through the Santa Marta gate and proceeding into the Apostolic palace through the courtyard of St. Damascus. In the colorful plaza, sur rounded by its rich colonnade, were the usual number of aged women and beggars warming their bones in the bright sun . light There were no assembled crowds to see the cardinals ar rive. - -; The college went into ses sion at 9:35 a. m. Fred Reeves is Master Councillor of DeMolay at the present Banquet Wednesday The Home Economics club has sent out invitations to the mem bers of the Pelican and Wildcat basketball squads and the coach es of the teams for a banquet to be given in their honor tins coming Wednesday night at 6:30. The dinner will be served and prepared by the Home Ec club members. After dinner a short program will be put on in the form of entertainment. At a recent meeting of the club the members discussed the sending of 10 members to the district meet in a of the Future Home-makers of America which is to be held in Grants Pass on March 2. The club voted to pay half the expenses of the four officers. And Incidentally The Service club had a "snow" party Sunday at Sun mountain. Chester K. Sterrett, manager cf the industries department of the Portland chamber of com merce, said that many Industries have been locating in California and Washington because of the more favorable tax structures in those states. Sterrett said Oregon's biggest stumbling block is lack of a community property law such as Washington and California have.
