Harry Sutton Wood, beloved Klamath pioneers, will be observed at the First Methodist chu,rch Sun day, December 23, from 3 to 3 o'clock and an invitation has been extended to friends of the family to call between these hours. Mr. and Mrs. Wood were mar ried in Cadillac, Michigan, Christmas Eve of 1885. They moved with their family to Ore gon on January 13, 1H10, and have made this state their home since that time.' Their four children, Attorney C. Stanley Wood of Oakland, California, Mrs. Freeman Schultz of Coos Bay, and Mrs. John Yodon and Will Wood of Klamath Falls, will be with them during the holiday season and will receive at the reception. Their families will also be pres ent. Among the grandchildren here for the occasion are Mclvin Ya don, home for the first time in four years from Honolulu, and his sister, Mrs. Walter Dennis, (Ardclle Yadon), from Salt Lake City. Cpl. and Mrs. Dennis ar rived tills week from Salt Lake City. The two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Will Wood and Mrs. C. Stanley Wood, will preside at the coffee table the first hour and tile second hour Mrs. Law rence K. Phelps and Mrs. Earl Redman will pour. Women of the church, who are sponsoring the affair, will assist. A Christmas dinner for the en tire family will be enjoyed Tues day at the Harry S. Wood home, 1963 Auburn. 8 8 8 Kiwanis Party The Kiwanis club installation party, social highlight of the year for Kiwanians and their wives, will be an event of Satur day, January 11, when a dinner dance has been arranged at the Willard hotel. Evans' orchestra will play. L. Orth Sisemore will be In stalled as president of Kiwanis and his staff of officers will also be installed in ceremony. Details and hours will be announced later. Members of the group in charge of the affair are Mal colm Epley, chairman; Donald Cram, Willard Ward, Burge Ma son Jr., and Lowell Kaup. Entertain Mr. and Mrs. Lorcn Palmer ton will entertain at dinner this evening, Saturday, at their home on Pacific Terrace. The affair honors the birthday of their daughter, Nadine, and also that of William Spangler. Guests will be Nadine and Margie, just home from the University of California for the holidays, Aviation Cadet Rich ard Newman who is also here from the south for Christmas, Bill McMullen and William Spangler. 8 Holiday Party Mrs. Lloyd J. Goble enter tained at a prettily appointed Christmas party when she asked members of her bridge club and several guests to dinner at the Pelican party room Monday eve ning of last week. The room was gay with tra ditional holiday decorations. Christmas prizes went to Mrs. John Martin, Mrs. Paul W. Sharp and Mrs. Claude H. Davis and there was an exchange of gifts among the guests. Mother-Daughter BPW Party Given "Christmas in Europe" was the talk given by Mrs. Frederick C. Wissenbach at the holiday party and dinner of the Business and Professional Women's club, held Monday evening, December 17, at the Willard Hotel. ; Dorothy Ackerman, music chairman, and her committee were in charge of this mother-daughter affair which was made gay by evergreens, lighted candles, holly and a gift exchange. Speaking of the observance of Christmas m the various coun tries on the continent, Mrs. Wissenbach said that in some of them the holidays begin on December ; ; : 6. the dav of St. Nicholas, the dispenser of gifts, and she relat ed the legend that started the custom of hanging up the Christ mas stocking. In Italy, she explained, it's the j good St. Stephano who is hon- i ored. on January 6, when gifts i are drawn from the Urn of Fate. l-i l -i.) In -Denmark and Germany on this day, the girls ask to have their future husbands revealed to them. Mrs. Wissenbach told her au dience that the Yule log tradi tion comes from their Scandi navian ancestors to the English speaking people. A log is brought into the house on Christmas eve with ceremony and chanting. .In some sections of France the log is sprinkled with holy water. Christmas day in France Is exclusively for chil dren, said Mrs. Wissenbach, and in speaking of the use of decor ated pines or cedars in our homes, stated that this is gener ally believed of German origin. Appearing on the musical part of the program - were Muriel Garich who sang "The Lord's Prayer," by Mallotte, accompan ied by Marie Obenchain, and LaVerne Reed who selected "O Holy Night," by Adam, accom panied by Mrs. Don Zumwalt. The gift exchange was fol lowed by the singing of Christ mas carols, led by Winnifred K. Gillen, and with Esther Shep herd as accompanist. Assisting Mrs. Ackerman with the program were Winni fred Gillen, Muriel Garich, Ol lie Landrum, Edna Russell and Esther Shepherd . Betty Jones Haynes Leave -Naval Ait Station ' Commander and Mrs. Phil L.
