Ellis. 2 Men Draw 1-Year Jolts Two men were sentenced this morning to serve one year in the Oregon state prison for pass ing bad checks and another was given a two-year parole on a like charge by Circuit Judge uavia k. vanacnoerg. - Kenneth L. Barker and Lon Ortel Noland received the one year jolts and John A. Logue was paroled after he had prom ised to make good the $20 bad check he passed at Rlckys jew elry store. Noland gave a check for $276.94 to the Balslgcr Motor company lor work done on an automobile, and Barker obtained $25 worth of property and $25 cash for a worthless $50 check at Rudy's men's store. T DIVORG Stark Attends Conference On Reefer Lack A long conference regarding the refrigerator car shortage took place between Charles R. Sturk, manager of Klamath County chamber of commerce, and Senator Guy Cordon in Portland Friday. Senator Cordon promised irn mcdiato attention to the car shortage on his return to Wash ington, D. C. Stark attended the Oregon chamber executives meeting at which tourist promotion, hous ing and aid to returning vet erans was discussed. Regarding the housing situa tion, thought Is being given to the use of homola huts for civilians. These can be pre-fabrl-catcd to a large extent, erected in a short time and are rela tively Inexpensive. The annual state chamber meeting has been set for Febru ary 13 and 14, 1948, In Port land. Stark, named program chairman, plans to arrange for experts on chamber problems to be present for a general discussion. Post Office Business Good Santa Claus will be on hand at many homes this Christmas, rushing business at the Klam ath Falls post office indicates. Long queues of persons filled the lobby this afternoon when the post office remained open for mailing packages. It will also be open Saturday afternoon, De cember 22, for late mailing. " Four more persons were added to the post office staff today to help with the extra work. They were two clerks and two car riers. Monday morning 21 more will be added, completing the extra list. They have already been signed up, Postmaster Burt E. Hawkins stated and are r,eady to start work. - Extension Unit News The Henley home extension unit will, meet at 1:30 p. m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Jim Bunnell. Each member will be asked for a Christmas idea at roll call. Sewing skills will be the subject discussed at the meeting. Members are urged to attend and bring a friend. Altamont home extension unit will meet at 10 a. m. Tuesday to learn about sewing skills at the home of Mrs. Verona Dahler, 3738 Bisbee. -. Midland home extension unit will also meet Tuesday for a sewing skills class at 10:30 a. m., at the home of Mrs. Lee Sutton, Rt. 1, Box 1026. ' Wednesday Falrhaven and Klamath Falls units will hold all day meetings commencing at 10 a. m., Klamath unit meeting at the USO women's lounge. Sewing skills will be discussed at both meetings. Plans Drawn For Sears-Roebuck Job Plans for remodeling the two Sears and Roebuck company stores on Klamath avenue have been drawn by Howard Perrin's office. Cecil Green has been engaged as contractor for the S20.000 job which' will include both inside and outside work on the stores'. A terra-cotta face with a granite trim will cover the entire fronts. Big Lakes Credit Union Votes To Pay Dividends A board of directors meeting of the Big Lakes federal credit union voted to recommend pay ment of four and one-half per cent dividends to its 132 mem bers for 1945. The recommenda tion will be passed on by the members next month. The union la a credit corpora tion operating under a federal charter and makes loans to em ployes of Big Lakes Box com pany. During the year $22,500 was loaned to company workers. Last year the union paid a four per cent dividend. W. J. Crank is president of the organi zation, Harry Mesner is vice president and L. R.
