Pels Start Toughening For Eugene Redkcy, Hurt At Eureka, May Bo Back In Lineup Against Axemen Friday Despite yesterday afternoon's cold drizzle, the Pelicans began their preparation for the final home game of the season against Eugene next Friday with a light workout emphasizing punting, punt defenso and clean, hard tackling. . All the boyi appear to have com through th Logger crap okay, with the excep tion of Bob Redkey, who wai injured on the fint play of the Eureka game. Redkey sprained his knee diving for a fumbled ball and was taken off the field. He is able to take part in light drills now. Coach Paul Angslead said, and may be ready to go back into the Pelican backficld against Eugene. Commentins on the Eureka game, Angstcad praised the Log ger fullback, Andy Knudsen, whose passing to Halfback Milt Warren beat the Pels, as a fine back with plenty of power who picked his own holes in the Pelican line and didn't need much interference before him. Selby and Eastman played great ball on the flanks for the K-men. Angstead said. There wasn't much yardage gained around the ends or over the tackle spots, and the Loggers usually concentrated their ground attack right on the center of our line. Angstead has ' received con flicting opinions as to the sys tem used by the Eugene eleven from persons who have seen them in action, but knows that they shift from a T to a sort of single-wing and box forma tion. Some plays are run from the T, scouts have reported. Jones Slated For Return Go With Lipscomb A return bout between the two currently most savage matmen on the circuit. Rough Rufus Jones and Brutal Jack Lipscomb, will headline the grappling card at the armory Friday night, pro viding Mack Lillard can locate another referee to take Wally Moss' place for the event Lipscomb has registered beef about Moss' officiating, even though he was awarded last week's fight after Jones had clouted him with a chair, so Lillard is endeavoring to bring a referee down from Portland for the bout. Jack is complaining about some of the stunts the Dusky De troiter was allowed to get away with in their last tiff, although nis own tactics are not of the lily white order, but the two unpoDU- lar favorites will clash again Fri day, witn a new third party In tne ring. As for the remainder of the card, Herb Parks, having had his shot at the old master, the Grey Mask, and been guzzled, returns to the curtain-raiser class to be gin working up again. He takes on Gorilla Poggi. hairy-chested pulverizer from South America, who returns to the local mat wars after a tour . of duty in the north end of the circuit. Poggi drew with Buck Davidson and lost to Angelo Martinelli in his last Klamath appearance. The other joust will probably have the Hooded Hoodlum against some opponent as yet un named. '30 (fP) The Pacific coast has come up with a claimant for football's na tional high scoring honors in Terry Ragan who piled up 72 points for the unbeaten Univer sity of Kedlands eleven before being transferred to Southern California by the navy. Ragan, a halfback, scored 12 touchdowns for Redlands which concluded its campaign after five games. The Pacific point maker was shifted to Southern California last week and manag ed to break into the Trojans' lineup against Washington Sat urday. He carried the ball three times for short gains but didn't score. , Trailing Ragan by six points were Jim Boswell, of Oberlin, the midwestem leader, and Wal ter Trojanowski, of Connecticut, who tons the eastern point get ters. Boswell hung up his togs when Oberlin completed its eight-game schedule two weeks ago but Trojanowski, who rack ed ud two touchdowns Saturday. still has a chance to overhaul the national leader. The authoritative source, which cannot be disclosed, said official announcement of this step is planned within a month or so. it will leave the Coast league one of two alternatives. either to become an outlaw cir cuit or declare itself a third major league. ine latter alternative has been decided upon, it was stated, which will in effect give the Coast league parity with the Na tional and American leagues and therefore prohibit the latter from drafting players from the coast, it is Known that the Coast league directors have a bitter attitude toward the major leagues oecause or tne latters refusal to increase the player draft price above the present Hornsby Turns Down Milwaukee Offer Cougars Will Travel South In Day Coaches PULLMAN. Idaho. Oct. 30 (VP) This naval center's Blue jackets will play a Pacific coast service football team in Gon zaga stadium at Spokane Dec. 1. Announcement of the meet figuring as yet unannounced lineups came from the public re lations office of the Farragut naval center. Negotiations are now under way with a coast service team, the public relations officer said. Gaynor Huck of Mills scored In the second qunrter on a 45 yard canter around end, giving his team a lead they never lost.
