The age limit pre viously was 18. Announcing a new enlistment program with an active duty date of March 1, 1048, the naval aviation cadet selection board in Seattle aald that civilian boys between the aget of 17 and 20 could Join class V-8 of the naval reserve Immediately If they were high school graduates or would be graduated on or before Feb ruary 28, 1046, They will be on inactive duty until March 1. EnliiHceg, who will be tent to collega for a year by the navy on March I, must not have reached their 20th birthday by that date. Applicants who are 10 before March 1 mutt have had at least one term of college by that time. The minimum height limit was raised to 5 feet 6 Inches. OPA Lowers Ceilings On Some Douglas Fir PORTLAND, Oct. 10 (IP) Ceilings on Douglas fir sold by off-rail mills when shipments are not made by the mills' custo mary loading points will drop $1.25 a thousand board feet stortln October 23, the OPA aald today. A second OPA price change will add 60 cents a thousand on Douglas fir to cover handling costs for lumber loaded on barg es at the dock of a deep-water mill that usually delivers along' tide ahlD. About 18,000 American sail ors and soldiers streamed ashore to occupy the capital city of Kei lo. 23 miles away, to the cheers of the natives. A crowd estimat ed at 100,000 gathered in the vi cinity of the capitol to watch the lowering of the Jap flag and the raising of the Stars and Stripes. That seemed noteworthy to the men of the transport. Redman, 803 Front, now wears two Gold Stars In lieu of second and third Air Medals for distin guished service. Redman, now stationed with 'a carrier aircraft service unit at the naval air station, Seattle, participated in ac tions at Borneo, the Philippines and Morotai. He was engaged in radar maintenance. The award was presented by Lt. Cmdr. A.' A. McCurdy, commanding officer of the carrier aircraft service unit. Last month Redman was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The Gold Stars In lieu of second and third Air Medals were awarded Redman for "distinguishing himself by meritorious acts while participating in aerial flights" during the period from March 24, 1945, to April 8, 1045, and from April 8, 1045, to May 31, 1045, The citation concluded, "His conduct throughout has distinguished him among those performing duties of the tame character." The US forest service crew of five men under direction of Dick Steppe, started burning slash in tbe Scott creek area Wednesday. The jury ruled yesterday the Aug. 21 shooting came within the officer's line of duty, there by closing an investigation or dered by Governor Snell at the insistence ot several Portland ? roups.
