John Sttiub, formerly of this city and now stationed with the army at Mannheim, Ger many. Mrs". Clare Sheridan of Min neapolis has announced the en gagement of her daughter Eliz abeth Lorraine to Sgt. Staub, son of George D. Staub of Port land. Sgt. Staub left Klamath Falls with the national guard unit for Fort Stevens. After war was declared he was transferred to a railroad division. He has been stationed at Clovls, N. M., and at Minneapolis, where he met Miss Sheridan. Ho has spent over two years in England, France and Ger many and expects to be home soon. s Mr. and Mrs. John C. Cleg- horn, 219 High, have as their S nests their daughter, Mrs, Ray anz and her children, Phyllis, uobrjy and Ullllc, who motored down from Portland on Tuesday for a two-week visit. Maj. Guderian soemTY By Nadine Polmerton Gilchrist Girl , s Recent Bride Lorena Sue Ferguson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Guy M. Ferguson of Gilchrist, became the bride of Dr. Ernst J. Dornfield, son of Rev. and Mrs. E. P. Dornfield of Milwaukie, Wis., at a double ring ceremony on August 18 at 4 o'clock in the Gilchrist Community church. Rev. John Morangc officiated. The bride was given in marriage by her father. She wore the traditional while satin with a fingertip veil of illusion net falling from a coronet of orange blossoms, and she carried an arm bouquet of orchids and step- hanotis. Jeanne Bassctt of Albany was the bride's only attendant and David G. Whitlock of Portland was the best man. Miss Bassett wore a dress of aqua blue satin and net with a matching veil of net. She carried a bouquet of pink roses and carnations. Little Marv Glvnno Car michael was flower girl and Mike Wells was ring bearer. Mary Glynnc wore a long dress of yellow chiffon and carried a white basket filled with pink rose petals. Mrs. Raymond Ochicricn played the wedding music and June Jarmin of Medford sang "O Perfect Love" by Atkinson. The candles in the church were lighted before the ceremony by Isabelle Anderson and Mary Gcales Gilchrist. Ushers were Ivan Martin of Portland and Bill Ferguson. A reception was held after ward at the home of the bride s 1 p ixisr ft parents. Assisting were Mrs. Vive Buchholz, Mrs. Isom Ez.eli and Bobbie Ward and Evelyn Rigdon. Mrs. Dornfield attended Ore gon State college. Dr. Dorn field received his B. S. and M. A. degrees from Marquette uni versity and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin in 1937. Dr. and Mrs. Dornfield left after their wedding for a visit to Victoria, B. C. and on their re turn about September 8, they will be at home in Corvallis where Dr. Dornfield is assistant professor of zoology at Oregon State college. 5 At Barnes Hospital A Wac mother and her Cadet Nurse daughter, both of Klamath Falls, are together at Barnes General hospital in Vancouver, Wash. Mrs. Elizabeth G Sanders took her training with the Wac at Ft. Dcs Moines, la. For a while Mrs. Sanders, a sergeant, was stationed with the recruiting of fice in Portland and was able to be near her daughter, Betty Jane, who had entered the cadet nurse corps in 1942. Now, however, the two are both stationed at Barnes and are able to be together again. Sgt. Sanders is with the medical detachment and her daughter is with tho cadet nurses. Wacs first arrived at Barnes In November, 1944, and this date was commemorated in an article written for "The Uniformcr," hospital magazine, by Sgt. Sand ers. Birthday Mrs. Carl Lindbergh enter tained at her home at 713 N. nth with a party in honor of her daughter, Nell, who was celebrating her birthday on Au gust 22. She planned to go to Portland to visit Virginia Turnbow before return ing to the south where she will continue her studies at San Jose", State college. On Tuesday evening a group of girls honored Barbara with a buffet supper at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Loren Palmerton of Pacific Terrace. ' Guests were Mrs. Don Mast, Christina Demetrakos, Letty Lin man, Fern Pennington, Mary Ellen Wright, Mary Stivers, Shirley Katzmeyer, June O'Brien, Mary Landry, Dorothy Riggs, Margie Palmerton, Nadine Palmerton and the guest of honor. Lt. and Mrs. Charles E. Ayers, she is the former Rae Herring ton, have been visiting her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. B. L. Her rington of 1060 Hanks, for the past 10 days. They are leaving Sunday morning for Santa Bar bara, Calif., where he is to re port for reassignment. Lt. Dornfield, assistant pro lessor at Oregon State college. H;: V A I r Alumni banquet Wednesday Event An opportunity to compare old times was furnished to alumni of Klamath Union high school when a large group met a,t a dinner this past Wednesday evening at the Willard hotel. The group met for a get-together and dinner In the main banquet room of the hotel. Special guests were servicemen home on furloughs and leaves. The affair was planned and directed by Mildred Williams, a graduate of KUHS with the clan of Navy Wives The Navy Officers' Wives club met for its regular bridge luncheon on Wednesday after noon at the bachelor officers' quarters at the naval air sta tion. Mrs. L. A. Peterson was elect ed the new president of the group and assisting her dur ing the coming term will be Mrs. H. E. Valentine as vice president, Mrs. E. E. Nichols as secretary . and Mrs. W. E. Glidewell as treasurer. Plans were made for the group to meet on Thursday, August 30, at the station to work on USO scrapbooks. Mem bers are urged to be there. After the luncheon on Wed nesday bridge was played with prizes for the afternoon going to Mrs. J. S. Lynche Jr., and Mrs. J. D. Jordan. Wedding Rachel Anneta Wright of Hager and Coxswain - Wilford O. Mitchel of the United States navy were married in a service read at the Lutheran church in Klamath Falls on August 20 at 6:30 p. m. , Chaplain H. R. Stroup of the Klamath naval air station officiated at the wedding., Coxswain Mitchel is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mitchel of Owens street in Klamath Falls and the new Mrs. Mitchel has been a resident of Hager for the past year. Bridesmaid for the wedding was Rose Marie Amberson and the best man was Clyde Ram sey, both of Klamath Falls. Attending' the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Mitchel, Mrs. B. Wright and several friends of the young couple. . The groom is now stationed at Shoemaker, Calif., and they expect to make their home in San Francisco. Dodge of this city, was married to PFC Harold Lee Smith, USMC, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Bowen of Mar drid. Iowa. The ceremony was perform ed by Justice of the Peace J. A. Mahoney at the home of the bride's parents at 24S Pacific Terrace. The service was read before the mantel which was decorated with white gladioli and oink asters. The bride wore a white Jersey print dress and a corsage of pink rosebuds for her wed ding. , ' Cpl. and Mrs. Roy Kaltschnee attended the couple. After a brief honeymoon the young couple has returned to Klamath Falls where they will make their home for the pres ent. i To Utah Motoring Tuesday to Utah were Mrs. John Malatchi. and son Jimmy, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Malatchi and daughter Kathleen and Edith Baker. In Salt Lake City, the party will meet John Malatchi who hna hppn In Utah for the oast week on business, after which they will visit relatives and friends as well as various points of interest In Utah, Colorado and Idaho before returning hnmp While in Price, Utah, ttir group will join a family re union at the home of John Ma- latchi's narents. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Malatchif who, on August 25 are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. On Leave Lt. and Mrs. William M. Tavenncr arrived here on Aug-, ust 12 from Ellington field, Houston, Tex., where Lt. Taven ner has been stationed since last February. He has been training navigation students. The lieutenant left here last Friday for Stockton field, Calif,, where he will be stationed while flying transport planes, ' Mrs. Tavenner will be re membered as the former Kay Slauthauer and she is now visiting with her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Slauthauer of 4667 Cannon. Lt. Tavenner is tho son of Mr. and Mrs. H, K. Tavenner of 703 N. 9th. ' Esther Thels, who for several weeks has been a guest of Mr, and Mrs. J. F. Lee, left on Sun day for her home in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mrs. Lee accompanied her to San Francisco and will visit relatives and friends there and In Richmond, Calif., before re turning to her home at 2300 iBichn.
