EIGHT HERALD AND MEWS MIDLMD 1PM 1WS Keno Highway Community Given Name Of "Pioneer" K "Pioneer" Is the name unof ficially given today to the com munity lying along the Ashland highway between Keno and Weyerhaeuser. , Mn. Vera Clemmens Is the correspondent of The Herald and News for that area, and it iVn of Vint KtifftrAtinn the name was applied to it. Many of the pioneer residents of this area made their home there in early days, on such places as the R. A. Emmitt property, the O. A. Stearns' farm, and the Hiram Murdoch place. Tn recent years, the commun ity has developed rapidly, with several new homes rising there. PIONEER COMMUNITY. Weyerhaeuser employes in this community enjoying their va. cations are Mrs. Art Wilson, who with her children, Toby and Darleen, have gone to Clayton, Wash., to ' visit Mr. Wilson's mother. Mrs. Dessie Mesner has eone to Oakland. Calif., and R. E. Hurlbut is spending his at home putting up his hay. Haying has begun with most of the farmers along Jveno high way, with the Ralph Johnston. John Lily, Kerns brothers and W. L. Frain ranches in full swing. . ! Word has been received by the Z'arosinski family that their son, John, who has been stationed in England for some time will be home soon. John is serving in tie navy. 1 Mrs. Ruby Severson, former resident of this community who now resides at Chiloquin, visited aj the Zarosinski home on Sun-, day. She was accompanied by her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Cherry, who were re cently married. .Mrs. W. L. Poole, Klamath Falls, and Mr. and Mrs. C. L. $arvey called at the T. G. Clem Hens' home Sunday afternoon. Mrs. N. Anderson has a new grandson of this week, born to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Anderson of Keno. The boy has been named Kenneth John. ' ; Mr. and Mrs. Halleck Donel son and son arrived Monday eve ning from McMinnville, Ore., to rnd Donelson's vacation at the L. Frain and T. G. Clemmens' ranches. Donelson is the grand son of the Frains. His son is the ohly great grandson of theirs, so their visit to this community was "welcome one. Donelson is the son of Mrs. Clemmens. They re turned to McMinnville on Fri day. H. H.- Van Valkenburg. Ash land, a former pioneer of this community, was a visitor at the Colwell brothers' ranch on Fri day. Mr. Van. as he is better known, sold his holdings here lst splng to the Colwell broth ers of Merrill. This is orfe of tfie largest and oldest ranches in this community; A get-together dinner was held last Sunday- at the M. H. Parsons' home. Milo Lepley of the armed forces, is spending his furlough with his brother, Miles Lepley, He is stationed at Albuquerque, N. M. 7 Carl Brlngle is stationed at San Diego, Calif., waiting fur ther orders from the navy. His wife and baby are with him. Mrs. Bringle is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. H. Parsons. Mr. and Mrs. Davison, of this community, visited the Pritch ards Friday of last week. Alfred Burton is cutting and baling hay for several farmers in wus Brtr. W. L. Fraii returned Sunday evening from Topsy Grade area where he looked after his cattle on their summer range. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Hurlbut and family visited with rela tives at Ft. Jones, Calif., Friday, returning here Saturday eve ning. Callers at the W. L. Frain ranch on Sunday were Mrs. L. Vaughn and daughter Kathleen, Mae Phinney and Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Metcalf. Residents of our community extend their deepest sympathy to the Robert Colwell family who were saddened by the death of their twin boys, born July 5. Dairy Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Alvin (Pughe) Heffron who were recently married in Reno. Mrs. Heffron will be remem bered as the former Emma Mc Cumber. daughter of Martha McCumber. The Heffron's plan to make their home in Dairy. . Milton (Dukie) Adams re turned home from Eugene, where he has spent the past month with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Adams. Mrs. Leland Stoehsler and baby son, Mrs. Eugene Horsley and Carole Lee Horsley spent the Fourth with their uncle and aunt, Mr. .and Mrs. Bill Jameison, and with their cousin Marvin in Roseburg, Oregon. Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. Allen Hankins on the ar rival of their third girl, born in Klamath Falls July 2. Friends will be glad to learn that Harlan Prough is now able to sit up some after undergoing a major - operation some time ago in Klamath Falls. Dukie Adams, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jill Adams, received nose surgery at the medical clinic in Klamath Falls Wednesday. Archie Roberts is heluing Buck Rodgers to Irrigate this week, Vic Brown, Mrs. Brown, Jane Tucker hiid Bo Tucker and fanv ily attended a movie Sunday night in Klamath Falls. Several of the ranchers are now irrigating their potatoes, which are growing fast. Ernest Fleming was on the sick list recently. He is now employed at the Schaupp ranch. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Slover were visitors at the Lasson Ross ranch from California. The Slovers were former residents of this valley. Mr. and Mrs. Tex Meglanon and children, Phillip and Sylvia. of Glendale. spent the holidays with friends and relatives here and in Langell valley Mrs. Victor Nork and children are spending a few days in the valley from Klamath Falls. Mrs. Fred Reiling was a visi tor in Klamath Falls from here last week. The Eddie Roberts boys and family spent the Fourth boat riding at the Lake o' the Woods. Zefla High was a shopper in Klamath Falls from here Thurs day. A. stork shower was held at the home of Margaret Fvuer in honor of Mrs. Pete Holzhouser recently. The Clarence Webber and Francis Freuer families were doing some cherry canning this week. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nork were shoppers in Klamath Falls from here Saturday. Mrs. Nork called on Mrs. Jacob Seuter of the Claremont hotel while in Klamath. They also called on Jim McCronk in Altamont. Several of the families from here attended the celebration in Klamath Falls on the Fourth. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Schaupp were visitors at the Lasson Ross ranch home one evening this week. Congratulations are extended by the community to Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Reiling on the birth of a boy. This is their second son.
