The second game was postponed by rain. Hank Borowy gained the Yan kee victory to put his team back in first place, a half-game ahead of the Detroit Tigers, who split with the White Sox. Suds Gain Two Games On Bevos Portland's Lead Narrowed To Ti Games As Seattle Tokes Twin Bill From Seals By The Associated Press Baseball dope was scattered in all directions throughout the Pacific Coast league over the weekend as Portland's lead was pared to a game and a half through three consecutive losses at Los Angeles, Seattle swept a Sunday doubleheader at San Francisco, Sacramento bounced back into third place with a double victory over Oakland and the cellar-dwelling Hollywood Stars won twice from San Diego. Angels Take Series The Angels' 6-5 and 5-1 wins Sunday and 5-1 victory Saturday gave tnem a 4-3 series edge. Rip Russell, Los Angeles third base man, came through with a two run homer in each game yester day, contributing to the downfall of Roy .Helser and Jack Tising, Beaver hurlers. Jorge Cornelias, Angel newcomer, took the mound in the opener and chalked up his second victory since join ing the club. Righthander Don Osborn limited Portland to five hits in the nightcap. R aimers Whip Seals Twice Seattle, beaten 8-3 by San Francisco Saturday, came back to down the Seals 9-5 ond 5-0 Sunday and gain two full games on the league-leaders. Chet John son and Joe Demoran teamed to hurl the Rainiers to victory in the 'initial tilt yesterday, while veteran Hal Turpin blanked the Seals in the finale. Five errors by the O'Doulmen in the first game aided in their downfall. Through their Sunday comeback the Rainiers took the series 4-3. . Solons Drop Acorns Sacramento rapped the falter ing Acorns 11-8 and 0-8 yester day after dropping a 4-2 en counter Saturday. The Solons came from behind to win both Sunday games and move from fifth to third place, a spot they held for a day last week. Less than midway in the Sunday nightcap Manager Dolph Camilll announced Oakland was finish ing the game under protest as the result of a dispute over a toss to the plate by Sacramento Pitcher Bud Beasley in nipping Norm Deweese as he attempted to steal home. Camilli argued that Beasley balked in making the throw but Umpire Frisco Ed , wards disallowed the claim. The Acorns' double defeat Sunday put them half a game behind the Solons in fourth place and lost them the series 5-2. Rip Sew ell, in relief, won the first for the Pirates, while Preacher Roe went the route in the nightcap. Braves Sweep Two The Braves moved into sixth place as Mort Cooper and Jim Tobin defeated the Giants, 8-5 and 3-1, for the Braves' sixth and seventh straight victories and their ninth in the last 10 starts. Cooper won his fifth without a defeat in the opener, and Tobin aided his own cause with a homer in the second game. Brooklyn, led by Coach Char ley Dressen, who acted in the place of Manager Leo Durocher, handed the Phillies a 10-4 de feat in the opener of what was scheduled to be a doubleheader.
