This is a two-year office, to be followed by two years of presidency. Mrs. Burcham, who has been residing in Salem for the Dnst few years. served as publicity and legisla tive chairman lor inai Drancn and last foil was elected to serve as its vice president, Wishing to give something back to the community in return for her college education. Mil dred was the instrumental per son in organizing the Lakeview branch ot AAUW in 191)9 and served as its first vice president. bhe received a Bernard Duly fund scholarship when she grad uated from high school in 1923 and enrolled in the University of Oregon that' fall, where she majored in history and educa tion. Her outstanding record at the university won her a mem bership in Pi Lambda Theta, na tional educational honorary and the privilege of studying for hon ors in history, which she com pleted. In 1929. Mrs. Burcham was elected to Phi Beta Koppa, and was the first Bernard Daly fund student to achieve that dis tinction. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Baker of Lnkc view. Her husband, J. O. Bur cham, was superintendent of the city schools from 1930 to 1942 and is now employed by the state unemployment compensa tion commission in Salem. Mil dred has served as Burt K, Sny der's secretary during the last two legislative sessions, and is employed by the state education al department at present. Mt. Laki Marie Dixon and Beverly Shay of Portland, Ore., were weekend guests at the Percy Dixon home, returning to Port land Sunday night, Mrs. James Crawford returned from Tacoma, Wash., Thursday morning and is visiting at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jay Manning this week. Dorothy Dixon of the Univer sity of Oregon, Eugene, is spend ing a week's vacation at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Dixon.
