The balloting on a 24-mill tax for paving purposes resulted as iouows: Yes 130: No 222. Observers believed' the tax was concentrated too heavily in too short a period to win the approval of the voters. The plan called for a 24-mill ad valorem tax for three years. No Injury Reported In Traffic Accident A traffic accident occurred Sunday in which no one was in jured, when a car driven by J. C. Rawllngs, 8S0 Pacific Terrace, smashed into the rear end of a vehicle operated by Archie Quackenbush, 8426 Shasta way, at the underpass on Main. Rawllngs blamed the collision on faulty vision, according to city police. Rawllngs' vehicle was damaged to the extent of $100 and damage to the other car was estimated at $20. The bills to tax cigarets 2 cents a package and to levy a 5-mill two-year property tax to give money for schools, and for build ings for state institutions and tho state board of higher, edu cation ran into stubborn oppo sition today from the Oregon School Districts association. The school directors oppose using money from cigarets for education. They advocate use of income tax receipts to give ad ditional revenue to schools, al- Thirty-four permits were is sued during the month of Febru ary by City Building Inspector Alva Downs, the total for the month reaching a satisfactory figure of $24,825. Eight business houses were re modeled at a cost of $11,030, 25 permits were approved for re modeling homes at a cost of $13, 595, and one new residence was authorized at a cost of $200.
