Carlson is tho brother of Mrs. I rod Gocllor, 40(1 S, Riverside, Klamath Falls. Ho entered the scrvlco In March, 11(41, came overseas In August, 11)42, and is now on tho seventh army front in France. Tho cilutlon authorizing the high award reads as follows: " . . . for heroic achievement In action on August 28, 1044 near Loriol, Franco. When a man was wounded Homo distance from him, SSgt. One of tho first American sol diers to be evacuated from the Philippines for hospitalization In the Netherlands East Indies, Sgt. Martinson is now a patient in on army general hospital and making rapid recovery. HOWIE PROMOTED HEADQUARTERS, 13TH AAF, SOUTHWEST PACIFIC Clarence E. Howie, son of Mrs. Charles S. Schoal, 139 S. 7th, Klamath Falls, has been promot ed to staff sergeant. Ho Is an aircraft Inspector with' an air drome unit of the 13th AAF scrvlco command, In the South west Pacific. Sgt. Howie served at Smoky Hill army air base, Salina, Kas., before going overseas. He wears tho army Good Conduct medal, and a battle star for service in a combat zono. Ryser. 24, hi 1'ium fit., Klamath Falls, chief operations cleric in a 15th AAF B-24 Liberator group, re cently was authorized to wear the distinguished unit badge with one bronze Oak Leaf cluster when his unit received tg second citation for outstand- ng performance In combat. . A 1040 graduate of Lakevicw, Ore., high school, Ryser was engaged in lumbering for the Ewauna Box company, Klamath Falls, when he Joined the AAF, Oct. 31, 1940, at McCord Field, Wash. Ho arrived overseas Feb. 13, 1944. He and his brother, Sgt. Lloyd H. Ryser, met in Rome while both were on passes to that illy.. Lloyd is now serving with Thursday. March 1, 1I4S HERALD AND NEW!
