J. Fer guson, Scottish-born world tra veler, will speak Tuesday at an assembly sponsored by the Lat in club. The assembly will have nothing to do with Latin; the club just wanted to try an ex periment with different clubs sponsoring assemblies during the year. An experiment will also be tried in assembly singing. The entire assembly, under the di rection of Andrew Loney Jr., will sing several numbers. Dr. Ferguson was a chaplain in both the army and navy, and at the present time is a chap lain in the Oregon state guard. The Latin club is an organ ization composed of students taking or who have taken Lat in. There are approximately 60 members at the present time. Its motto is "Signa Ferre" (Advance the Standards). Its idea is to promote interest in Latin and its classical background. The Latin club raised S100 to buy pictures for the Latin room, but as yet, the money is just set aside in a fund for that purpose. Ruth Landry, is the club's president, and Helen Hoffman is the club advisor. Two Fatally Burned In Seattle Fire SEATTLE, Feb. 19 IP Two persons, Mrs. Lenore Johanson. 27, and a soldier, tentatively identified as Raymond Solapeck, a friend of her husband, were burned to death yesterday when fire swept a small frame bunga low in north Seattle. The woman's husband. Stan. was hospitalized with first and second degree burns of the face and back, while a second soldier. naymona rtigneii, was described as in an "extremely critical ' condition at King county hospital where he was taken with first. second and third degree burns over nis entire body. , Fire Battalion Chief G. W. Martin expressed belief the fire started from a cigarette. Prices here were up one-half to one and a half cent a bushel compared with a week ago. Trade reports, however, indicat ed another very quiet week, and demand for cash wheat at Pacific northwestern terminal markets was not much higher. Growers offered only moder ately, since current bin prices are still under load redemption levels. AN EIGHTH AIR FORCE BOMBER STATION, England The promotion of William Laahs, 22, of Klamath Falls, from the grade of second lieu tenant to first lieutenant has been announced by Colonel Frank P. Bostrom of Bangor, Me., commanding officer of the 490th bomber group, a B-17 Flying Fortress unit of the eighth air force with which, lit. Laahs is a navigator. Lt. Laahs is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Laahs Jr., of 1109 Pine street, and prior to entering the army air forces in July, 1942, was employed as a lumber grader for the Lamm Lumber company at Modoc Point. , OLSON GETS RATING Leonard Gilbert Olson, for merly of Bly, and now with the ship repair unit, U. S. navy, somewhere in the Pacific, has recently received a new rating. He is now machinists mate sec ond class. He was employed by the Ivory Pine Lumber com pany before entering the service. GREEN IN FRANCE With the U. S. army supply forces in France A mobile workshop, constructed entirely by the equipment maintenance company of the 712th railway operating battalion, regularly moves over lines which trans port trainloads of supplies to our combat troops. A member of this battalion is Pvt. William R. Green of 239 Eldorado in Klamath Falls. The transportation corps unit, with which he is attached, is charged with running maintenance of all railway equipment.
