PACE SIX I I I I Wanes noia joint Installation Members of the Merrill, Malin, Klamath No. 8 and Junior auxiliary units of the American Legion auxiliary gathered at the Veterans memorial hall where a joint installation party was held on July 13. , . , The impressive ceremony was conducted by Past President Mrs Fannie Thompson. She was assisted by Past President Myrtle Finley and Mrs. Leola Heilbronner, musician. . The installing officers were escorted to the altar by Mrs. Car olyn Williams, sergeant at arms. Beautiful corsages were pre- sented to Mrs. Thompson ana Mrs. Finley. They were intro duced and the gavei was iiaiiu ed to Mrs. Thompson by the president, Mrs. Carl 5ciiuDeri. Th nffliws - elect were es corted to the altar where each took her oath. In groups of four thev were then escorted to their stations .and the corres- nnndine retiring officers in structed each one in the duties of her office and charged her with the responsibility of faith ful fulfillment of her office. Klamath unit will be led by Mrs. J. H. Gallagher, president; Mrs. Hal Ogle, first vice presi dentr Mrs. Alfred Petersteiner, second vice president; Mrs. Martha McCollum, secretary; Mrs. Robert Browning, treas urer; Mrs. Robert Ross, chap lain; Mrs. R. D. McGehey, his torian; Mrs. Harry Landrum, sergeant at arms; Mrs. R. G. Motschenbacher, member ship chairman, and Mrs. Carl Schu bert, past president. The Junior auxiliary presi dent is Mary Lou Fowler. Other officers who will work with her will be announced later. Officers installed for Malin were Mrs. Ethel Roberts, presi dent; Mrs. Ethel Hamilton, first vice president; Mrs. Martha Brothnak, second vice presi dent; Mrs. Agnes Schriener, sec retary; Mrs. Bessie McCulley, historian; Mrs. Mary Victorian, chaplain; Mrs. Alice Nyhart, sergeant at arms, and Mrs. Irene Trout, past president. New officers for Merrill unit are .Mrs: Ora Burkes, president; Mrs. Millicent West, first vice president; Mrs. Lena Buck, sec ond Vice president; Mrs. Audrey Lewis, .secretary-treasurer; . Mrs. Anne Fruits, historian; Mrs. Audrey Lewis, past president. Mrs. J. H. Gallagher, newly installed president of Klamath unit . number" 8, " expressed her appreciation of the -honor con ferred upon her and earnestly solicited full support of the members to the end that the American - Legion auxiliary might be- of the utmost service to' the community, state and nation. Short talks were made by the newly- installed president, Mrs. Ora Burkes of Merrill, Mrs. Ethel Roberts of Malin and Mary Lou- Fowler, junior auxil iary president. , - - Mrs. Carl Schubert, past president,- thanked her officers chairmen and members for their helpful suggestions during the past year and .their faith fulness in assisting her to carry on the work. She expressed the sincere 'wish that new officers would carry the auxiliary pro gram to greater - achievements ' in the coming year. 'Department Americanism chairman, Dorothy ' Templer, told, of .the many accomplish ments in Americanism all over the-' state last year and express ed her wish that the auxiliary might . be--able- to- accomplish a great many more this year.; ' " Mrs. Lina ; Motschenbacher, membershipchairman, was in troduced and presented- with a gfft-ih appreciation' of her hard Couple Honored Members of the Stingerette club and of the auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Train men, and other close friends of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Sackett were guests at a dinner given at the home of Mr. and Mrs. V. C. Phil lips, 2250 Garden, on Monday evenine. July 24. in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Sackett. A long-time employe of the Southern pacific, he is retiring from active service and they will make their home in Portland. The tables were set in the at tractive outdoor living room, and were centered with bouquets of sweet peas in early American Fostoria glassware. At the places of the guests of honor were a cor sage for Mrs. Sackett and a bou tonniere for Mr. Sackett, From the group, Mrs. Sackett received a gift of Fostoria glassware and an Irish linen dinner cloth. Later in the evening four ta bles of pinochle were enjoyed, with high score held by Mrs. Paul Home, second by Mrs. Walter Fuller and the consolation award going to Mrs. Fred Genereux. The guests present included Mrs. Paul Jones, Mrs. Joe Mat lick and her house guest, Mrs. James Wolf of Clarks, Neb.; Mrs. J. J. Pex, Mrs. Jack Barham, Mrs. C. W. Henry, Mrs. H. C. Bonney, Mrs. C. L. It was decided that the hospital ity chairman, Mrs. William Brightman, should visit the Marine Barracks each month to see - what the lodge can do in the line of hospitality, or nelp. Ten dollars was voted to be sent to Eaton Rapids, Mich., for tne veterans ol Foreign wars children's home in memory of the late Mrs. Herman . Lof dahl who passed away at the begin ning of her term of . office as president, and the lodge will receive a memorial scroll irom the children's home which will bear her name and will be hung in the lodge room. Chaplain Zell of the V.F.W. 1383 attended the meeting and told of entertainment to be held for service men September 21. This will be sponsored by the Post and the auxiliary together. Mrs. A.. A. Myers received the special award which is given at eacn meeting. Pinochle Club Wednesday, July 26, the Lucky Pinochle club was enter tained at the home of Zella Blankenship, 312 Martin.
