The famed Australian nurse's system of treating paralysis by physical therapy was lender fire recently by seven doctors who reported to the American Medi cal association that her treat ment had not prevented or de creased the effects of the disease in 650 cases they studied. "Our foundation has spent over a half million dollars test ing and evaluating the Kenny treatment and making the good of it available to the public," said O'Connor, who was former ly a law partner of President Roosevelt. He credited the Kenny treat ment "which is not advanced as a cure" with considerable merit. "This controversy has stimu lated a great deal of research and investigation, and some of our greatest medical discoveries have come as a result of con troversies." Russian Author Struggles With Bear for Governor PORTLAND, July 6 (P) ' Capt. Kanstanin Badigin, youth ful Russian author and shipmas ter, was still struggling vainly today to give Governor Earl Snell a tame Siberian bear. The 110-pound animal, brought from Russia aboard a merchant ship, was to be presented to the governor yesterday. The bear sniffed pleasantly at Snell, ate sugar from his hand. But when the governor said "Come, now, Maria, let's go home," the 18-months-old animal scurried into her hole on the ship's deck and refused to emerge. The fate of Maria Mashka in Russian is still uncertain. Arthur M. Greenhall, Portland zoo director who presumably would wind up with Maria, said he did not see how he could fit another bear into his pens. And the Russians do not want to go back with it. On the trip over, complained Uapt.
