I n Virginia Kennedy To Become Bride Engagement Announced at Affair in Party Room On Saturday, July 24 The engagement of Vlrglni Kennedy, daughter of Mr. and Mra. Joe M. Kennedy, to Bernard Ericsson of Arcadia, California, was announced at a luncheon given this afternoon, Saturday, at the Pelican party room. The newa was told to the guests by small prescription boxes at each place which served as nut cups and which had inside them the names and the date of the wedding which it to be on September the third in Los Angeles, Mis Kennedy attended Oregon State college after gradua tion from Klamath Union high school and for the past year and a half hat been employed as a service representative for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph company in Fresno, California. Mr. Ericsson, who U the son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Erics ion of Arcadia, is a medical student at the University of Southern California In Los Angeles. He is a graduate of Occidental college and whlla attending that school was af filiated with Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity- At the University of Southern Cali fornia he Is affiliated with Phi Sigma Rho medical fra ternity. Those who were invited to the announcement party on Saturday afternoon were Mrs. Joe Kennedy, Mrs. W. W. Clarey, Mrs. J. E. Honored Picnic Luncheon for Portland Woman Is Event of July 15 A delightful picnic lunch eon with Mrs. O. L. Brown as hostess was given at Moore park on July the fifteenth. The affair was in honor of Mrs Brown's sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Sanders, who is vacationing here from 'Portland. ' Luncheon was served at half past one o'clock and the rest of the afternoon was spent in visiting and enjoying' the walks through the park. Those who complimented Mrs. Sanders ' were Mrs. Charles Drew, Mrs. A. R. NURSE BECOMES BRIDE IN FORT LEWIS CEREMONY. FORT LEWIS, Wash., UP) One of the last nurses to leave Bataan before its fall, whose work there won her a place in "Women of the Year" in 1942 selections of the Nation al Women's institute, was mar ried at Fort Lewis on July the twenty-second in a simple ceremony at the fort chapel. She was Lieutenant Helen Summers, who became the bride of Major Norman A. Campbell of Ocean Grove, New Jersey. The bride, who wore her uniform and carried no flow ers since "it is against regula tions" served with "jungle hos pital number two" at Bataan and Corregidor. Lieutenant Summers, whose home is at Brooklyn, New York, received leave from her present post at Mitchell field, New York, to come west for the wedding here, Major Campbell's station. " JUVENILES OF WOODCRAFT HAVE PICNIC MEETING The Juveniles of the Neigh bors of Woodcraft held a pic nic in Moore park on Mon day, July the nineteenth, at half past twelve o'clock. ' Stella Dryden, senior guard " ian, was assisted by Alta ' Clark and Erma Miller and saw that all were well-sup-' plied with food. A short business meeting ' was held and for the rest of the afternoon games were ' played. The next meeting . will be on Monday, August ' the second, and will be held . in the IOOF hall at two o'clock. Miss Deaton Is Bride Bly Girl Marries in Double Ring Service To Sergeant Ghering Miss Dorothy Deaton, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Dea ton of Bly, became the bride of Technical Sergeant Kenneth Ghering, son of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Ghering, at a double ring service read at the Klam ath Temple parsonage Thurs day evening, July the fif teenth. Rev. Gottfred Ander son officiated. The bride wore a jersey tu nic frock of teal blue and white, with white accessories. Her corsage was of gardenias. Attending the couple were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Walters of Dorr is. Mrs. Walters is the bride's sister. Other guests were the groom's parents and Mrs. Phyllis March of San En selma, California, aunt of the groom. Following the ceremony a wedding supper was served the bridal party at Sari's. Table centerpiece was a three tier wedding cake with mili tary decorations. Both Mr. and Mrs. Ghering are graduates of Butte Valley high school in Dorr is. The bride was a student nurse at St. Alphonsus Nursing school in Boise, Idaho, before her marriage. Sergeant Ghering left Sun day to report to his air corps base in New' York. Mrs. Gher ing is with her parents in Bly for the present but plans to join her husband later. MVB CLUB GIVES STORK SHOWER FOR MEMBER The MVB club met at the home of Mrs. Phil Motschen bacher on Wednesday, July the fourteenth. An attractive feature of the afternoon was a stork shower given in honor of Mrs. Lillian Casebier. The table was cleverly dec orated for the occasion. Those present were Mrs Nellie Motschenbacher, Mrs. B. H. Mistier, Mrs. J. G. Houck, Mrs. Pearl McPher son, Jack Casebier, Mrs. Elizabeth Casebier, Mrs. Katie Phipps, Thelma Houck, Betty Largent, Mrs. Largent, Mrs. Andria and Mrs. Minnie An dria. Delightful refreshments were enjoyed at the close of the afternoon. Mrs. Allen J. O'Brien and Michael and Mary Jane will leave for Portland on Monday to join Lieutenant Allen J. O'Brien. While there they will also visit with Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith who for merly lived here. Later the family will leave for Boise, Idaho, where Lieutenant O'Brien is stationed with the army engineers at Gowen field. Mrs. O'Brien and chil dren have spent the past month visiting here with Mr. and Mrs. T. William O'Brien on Pacific Terrace. She is the former Patricia Weathered. Eugene Register-Guard Daughters Hold Meet Catholic Women Plan For Summer Meet ings and Installation On Monday evening. July the twelfth, the Catholic Daughters of America held their regular monthly busi ness meeting. During the sum mer months the social and business meetings will be combined, so the next regular meeting will be held on Au gust the ninth, at which time plans will be made for the annual summer picnic. It was announced at this time that installation of offi cers will be held at the first meeting in September. Mrs. Ann McDonald and Mrs. Flor ence Pickett were reported to be improving from their re cent illnesses. The budget - committee, composed of Mrs Violet Pieser, Mrs. Theresa Doveri, Mrs. Agnes LaLonde and Mrs. Mildred Smith pre sented the budget for the coming year and it was ap proved by the court. A wel come visitor to the meeting was Father Peter Duignan. After the business meeting refreshments were .served by a committee consisting of Nora O'Connor, chairman, assisted by Mrs. Violette O'Connor, Mrs. Katherine Bruner and Mrs. Freda Newman. Mrs Rose Poole of the Red Cross spoke about the bond drive to be sponsored jointly by the Catholic Daughters and the Sojourner's club. On Monday evening a half hour of music and short talks was given over the radio in behalf of the bond drive. Fort Klamath court of the Catholic Daughters of Amer ica wishes to thank the fol lowing members who put over the drive and all those who helped in any way; Mrs. Mildred Smith, who was in charge of the radio program, assisted by Mary O'Connor, Mrs. Laurette Bryant, who spoke, and Mrs. Azita Ken nedy; Mrs. Gwendolyn Miller, Mrs. Rose Igl, Mrs- Wilma Rutledge, Mrs. Agnes LaLonde and Mrs. Ellen Ely who serv ed on the pledge committee.' Mrs. Mattson is returning to her former home In Pine City, Minnesota, for a three months visit with her sons and other relatives. She will look after property interests while there. CONGREGATIONAL SENIOR CIRCLE HAS PICNIC The Senior Circle of the Community Congregational church held its regular meet ing on Friday, July the six teenth, at the home of Mrs. W. C. Little, 2444 Orchard way. Potluck picnic on the lawn was enjoyed by 'Mrs. Glenn Stivers, Mrs. L. E. Henry, Mrs. Lee Kennedy, Mrs. H. O. Lohr, Mrs. H. S. Stone. Mary E. Eckstein, Alberta Allen, Rev. E. V. Haynes, W. C. Little, E. S. Edwards. Betty Jean Haynes. Mary Stone. John Stone. Mrs. H. J. McGillivary and Mrs. W. C. Little. During the brief business meeting which followed the luncheon, the circle decided to assume the responsibility of the Sunday morning church service, August the first, in the absence of Rev. Haynes. and Mary Eckstein 'will be In charge. All members of the - circle are urged to attend at that time. -PINOCHLE CLUB HAS MEETING AT LOWE HOME ' The hostess for the Lucky Thursday Pinochle club, July the fifteenth, was Agnace Lowe, at her home on Home dale road. Luncheon was served at one 6'clock to Fan nie Goddard, Mary Martin, Ruth Sehorn, Florence Young, Estclle Smith, Babe Good, Maude Phillips, Rita Fuller, Zella Blankenship, Kathryn Billings, and Harriet Norris. The next meet ing, July the twenty-ninth, will be at the home of Mary Martin on Wantland avenue. The Degree of Honor will hold their annual picnic at Moore park on Sunday, July the twenty-sixth for members and their families. Weyerhaeuser Couple Given Farewell Party Friday, July 16 WEYERHAEUSER CAMP 4 Mr. and Mrs. Tom Ten nery were given a surprise party at their home at Weyer haeuser camp 4 on Friday, July the sixteenth. While they were dinner guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs- Gor don Good, crowd gathered at the Tennery home. Mr. and Mrs. Tennery are moving this week to Keno where she will teach school and he will drive to his work at the camp. Mrs, Art Cooper was in charge of games at the party. Gary Crulkshank won a nut rolling race and Mr. and Mrs. Archie West were winners In a suitcase packing contest. As a farewell gift, a coffee table was presented to Mr. and Mrs. Tennery, with the names of thirty six camp fami lies on the presentation fold er.
