Henderson Takes Job With Radio Company NEW YORK, July 8 (.T) Leon Henderson, former admin istrator of the office of price ad ministration, hus accepted a posi tion as economic consultant on post-war problems to the Blow company, a radio advertising agency, President Milton Blow announced today. The week was the warmest of the season with maxima in the 90s In some areas. Precipitation was infrequent and light but only a few areas were entirely without rain. Condttioni remained good for small grain which is developing normally. Some rye has been cut. Higher temperatures help ed corn. Cane fruit picking oontinued with considerable delay because of shortage of help. Cherry pick ing is complete In a few districts In many western localities cher ries were cracked by rain. The market was extremely nervous and fluctua tions were wide. Advancing as much as 4 cents in rye during the first two hours, prices broke sharply around mid day when the house agricultural committee killed a proposal to lift corn ceilings to $1.40 a bush el, Chicago basis. News that the senate had abandoned by one vote a legisla tive prohibition against the pay ment of food subsidies brought renewed selling into wheat at the close and prices finished i-ic lower, July $1,471-1, September $1,481-1. On June 16 there were 460 en rolled in the program and this number was raised to 520 by July 1. The high school now has approximately 305 attending dally and "Mills school has en rolled about 213. The average of the boys and girls attending the centers has also Increased. On June 16, the average age for boys was 10.3 years with that for girls being 10.2 years. NROLLINT A 1R AS I UJif Cigaret Dealers Must Pay Old Tax To State of Oregon SALEM, July 8 (IP) The state tax commission mailed thousands of cigaret tax blanks today to cigaret dealers who must pay tho commission money they col lected under the state cigaret tax law, which was in effect for only a few weeks two years ago. The law was killed by refer endum. Many dealers collected the tax, but didn't turn the money over to the state when the law was killed. The recent legis lature provided that the dealers must give 93 per cent of the money to the state, and that they can keep the other 5 per cent. The tax amounted to 2 cents per package. LICENSE PLATES WASHINGTON, July 7 (Ft The war production board re laxed yesterday its order against the production of motor vehicle license plates to permit states to manufacture one 1944 plate for each vehicle, Instead of the customary two. The order permits states to use metal on hand, or sheet and strip steel not heavier than 22 gauge and listed as idle or ex cess inventory with the steel re covery corporation. Specific au thorization mutt be obtained from WPB to purchase the steel. Many states have recently re ported that license plates are becoming illegible, and must be replaced. WHYBEFATv?
