Trends dropped at the start and, with the ticker tape halt ing frequently, declines of frac tions to more than a point ruled near the close. A few peace-time favorites managed to hold their own but even these failed to make much progress. Transfers were around 750, 000 shares. Conspicuous on the down ward shift were U. S.
