Raymond Installed as New President Of Local Organization The Sojourners enjoyed a party Wednesday afternoon at the Willard hotel at which time Mrs. Wilbur Shannon, a past president. Installed the new officers. Tea and cards followed the installation. Hostesses were the retiring officers, Mrs. Guy Harmon, Mrs. E. M. Raymond, Mrs. W. C. Preston. Mrs. Glen Jones, Mrs. Ben Gibson, Mrs. J. A. McLellan and Mrs. Truman Berg. Corsages were presented to the new and retiring officer! from Mr. C. S. Elliot. Those taking over their new duties were Mrs. E. M. Raymond, president; Mrs. Guy Wilson, vice presi dent: Mrs. Glenn Jones, sec- t retary; and Mrs. H. O. Lohr, treasurer. Mrs. Guy Harmon, retiring president, was presented with a gift from the group. New officers will conduct the next meeting of the So journers which will be held Wednesday, June twenty third. Tea was served at an at tractive table centered with a crystal bowl which held red peonies and white daisies. There were also red candle sticks In crystal holders. Mrs. Guy Harmon presided at the tea table. In bridge, high honors went to Mrs. Glenn Jones, and sec ond to Mrs. Jaquette. Mrs. Minnie Peery was a guest for the afternoon. CONTRACT CLUB . MEETS AT DRYDEN HOME The Thursday Contract club met at the home of Mrs. C. O. Dryden, 610 North Eleventh street, on the afternoon of June the tenth. Members at tending were Idoline Schupp, Clara McPherren, Fannie Thompson, Ruth Stanley, Pearl Yorkeland, Willa Bark, Bertha Hewitt, the hostess, Stella Dryden, and one guest, Mrs. McCullem of Portland. High score was held by Ido line Schupp, second by Fannie Thompson and the traveling award went to Mrs. McCul lem. The next meeting, June the twenty-fourth, will be with Bertha Hewitt, 2225 Darrow avenue. ANNIVERSARY OF WEDDING CELEBRATED Mr. and Mrs. Santford Jones, former Merrill resi dents now living in Bonanza, were hosts at dinner on May the twenty-third honoring Mrs. Harold Jones. Mrs. Jones . is the former Eulafaye Wood ley. Private First Class Jones Is in training as a radio me chanic at Madison, Wiscon sin, and la the son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Jones of Merrill. The dinner was in celebration of Mr. and Mrs. Jones' first wedding anniversary. Places were set at the table for Mrs. Harold Jones, Mr. and -Mr Everett Jones, asd the hosts. The centerpiece was one large white taper and a low arrangement of roses. Choose frocks Mom n Farewell Party Mrs. Howard Graham Honored at Affair Given Thursday Eve Farewells were said Thurs day evening to Mrs. Howard Graham, a member of the Herald and News staff for many years, who is leaving for San Francisco to make her home. Many of her friends honored her at a party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Mal colm Epley on 604 North Seventh street on Thursday evening, June the tenth. JUVENILES OF WOODCRAFT MEET JUNE 7 The Juveniles of the Neigh bors of Woodcraft met in the KC hall Monday afternoon, June the seventh, at two o'clock. At the close of the business meeting, games were played and refreshments ' served. June Tilton was the chairman for the afternoon. The next meeting, June the twenty-first, will be in the KC hall at two o'clock and Dar lene Smith will be in charge. Neighbors of Woodcraft Mitt The regular meeting of the Neighbors of Woodcraft was held on Monday, June the seventh, in the KC hall. Guardian Neighbor Susie Smith called the meeting to order at eight o'clock and fol lowing the business meeting luncheon was served. Weise, deputy grand matron of California district four. Mrs. Walter Golden, associate matron, Mrs. Ival Wolfe, marshal, and Eve lyn Hagerty, Esther, all offi cers of Tulelake chapter. Or der of the Eastern Star, were guests Monday evening at Mount Shasta chapter for the official visit of the worthy grand matron of the OES for the state of California, Mrs. Catherine Farwell. Mrs. Boyd and Mrs. Welse were escorted to the east dur ing the ceremony. Chapters represented were Dunsmuir, McCloud and the host chapter. Friday evening the local of ficers attended a meeting of chapters of Adin, ' Alturas, Tulelake and Fall River Mills at Alturas, and on Saturday night, Mrs. Boyd, Mrs. Golden, Mrs. Weise and Mrs. Ruth Fisher visited the chapter at Cedarville. TULELAKE GIRL TO WED CORPORAL HUMPHRIES TULELAKE Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Bond have announced the engagement of their daugh ter Patricia Louise to Corporal William W. Humphries, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Helm, Oakland, California. The bride-elect is affiliated In a secretarial capacity in the transportation department at Camp Kohler where Cor poral Humphries Is serving in the army signal corps. Miss Bond is a graduate of the Tulelake high school. The young couple is visit ing this week at the home of the groom's parents. No defi nite date has been set for the wedding. V ..v sa Mrs. Glenn Jones EAGLE AUXILIARY .INSTALLS NEW OFFICERS The Eagles auxiliary held a regular meeting Thursday evening, June the third, with forty-six members present. Under new business, the retir ing officers were escorted to the altar by installing con ductress Verna Gay and the drill team, and were given the auxiliary salute. They were then escorted to the an teroom, where officers-elect were in waiting. Led by installing conduc tress Verna Gay and drill team, the following officers were escorted to the altar and given the oath for their office: Past madam president, Fran ces Herbert; madame presi dent, Maudie Larson; madam vice president, Phyllis Stel zenmueller; madam chaplain, Marjorie Perkins; secretary, Thelma Beckham; treasurer, Leah Pickett; trustee, Verle Dolan; inside guard, Ida Doo ley; outside guard, Laura Strang; conductress, Verna Gay, and musician, Stella Per sell. Retiring officers, officers elect, and captain and drill team were presented with beautiful corsages from the auxiliary by Past Madam President Fannie Thompson, assisted by Past Madam Pres ident Betty Wood. A bouquet of red roses and a past presi dent's pin were presented to Past Madam President Fran ces Herbert by Installing Offi cer Dolly Machado. The installing conductress and installing officer were presented with corsages as they took their stations. Much praise was given Captain Stel la Persell and the drill team. Tho team carried long stem red red and white roses -and formed, an arch over each of ficer as' she was seated. Captain Persell presented each of her team with a small gift in appreciation of their faithfulness to her. After the meeting, Ice cream and cake were served and games played until a late hour. The next meeting will be held on Thursday, June tenth, with initiation of can didates. Thimble Club Has Meeting 1 Mrs. Lucy Severn, 705 Up ham street, entertained the Thimble club of the Neigh bors of Woodcraft on Wed nesday evening, June the ninth. Three tables of pi nochle were in play during the evening, high score being held by Mrs. Canoy, second by Mrs. Bock, and low by Ida Mochattez. At the close re freshments were served by the hostess, assisted by Dicksy Weed. The Loyal Order of the Moose will hold a public card party Saturday night, to night), at half past eight o'clock in the Moose hall, 1010 Pine street. GREAT MISSIONARY RALLY at Salvation Army Hall P. Auspices, Pilgrim Holiness Church Methodist Circles Meet Five Groups Meet In Different Districts on Thursday Afternoon The five circles of the Wo man's Society of Christian Service met on Thursday af ternoon, June the tenth. Cir cle one met with Mrs. Walter Herndon, 525 North Ninth street, for dessert luncheon at half past one o'clock, the as sisting hostess being Mrs. Gar In. In tho absence of the chair man, Mrs. Mocnbce, Mrs. Gil crlst presided over the bus iness meeting, while Mrs. Mo myer led the devotional serv ice, Mrs. Jaquette gave a brief review of "The Power of tho Printed Word" in con nection with the year's study of Latin America and Mrs. Garin gave excerpts from Willkio s book "One World." Eight members were present and one visitor, Mrs. Peck. Circle two met at the home of tho chairman, Mrs. Rozen dal, 444 Crescent avenue, for dessert luncheon, the co-hostess being Mrs. Ruby Kenyon. There wcro litccn members present and two guests, Mrs. Elizabeth Schrocdcr, and Mrs. John Gardner; the latter be en mo a member at this time. Mrs. Proctor conducted the devotional period and Mrs. George Corned gave the les son on "Curtain Raisers In Re-habilitation" which con cerns the work done by a group of missionaries in Equa dor. It was decided that the July meeting would be a pic nic, to be held at tho home of Mrs. Redmond on Front street, overlooking Upper Klamath lake. Circle three was entertain ed at the home of Mrs. Glenn Kent, 737 Pacific Terrace, Mrs. Lester Pennington as sisting. Dessert luncheon was served to twelve members and two guests. Mrs. Turner and Mrs. McNee, both of whom joined the circle later in the afternoon. Mrs. Elmer Bal siger was welcomed home, having recently returned from a visit to South Dakota. Mrs. Paul Edwards reviewed the studies of the past year on Latin America and summari zed the year's work. Circle four held a potluck luncheon at the home of Mrs. Elizabeth Norris in the Hen ley district. Mrs. Barker, the chairman, was unable to be present and Mrs. C. A. Poola conducted the general busin ess meeting. Eleven members enjoyed the luncheon which seemed to be unaffected by red or blue stamps, and the hospality of Mrs. Norris. Circle five met at the home of Mrs. W. R. Morgan, 5108 Avalon street for a pay lunch eon at one o'clock, the assist ing hostess being Mrs. Strong. Rev. and Mrs. Victor Phillips, Mrs. Schneeberger, Mrs. W. F. Metier and Mrs. William Hill were guests, and there were twelve members pre sent. Mrs. Kelly, chairman of the circle, conducted the bus iness meeting and Mrs. Gilk erson led the study hour, the subject for the day being "Missions in Latin America".
