Oregon's Gasoline Consumption Falls Off 9 Per Cent SALEM, Dec. 26 (JP) Oregon gasoline consumption decreased by nine per cent during the first 11 months of 1942, Secretary of State Earl Snell reported today. A total of 250,018,636 gallons was consumed during the' 11 months' period, bringing in a tax to the state of $12,500,032. Novemberwas the only month of the 11 in which sales of gaso line went higher than in 1941 presumably because motorists were filling . their tanks just ahead of rationing, Snell said. B? Australia, 1100 miles away, and Hawaii, S000 miles, are two main supply bases for Guadal canal. The Japs as is usually the case with the axis have short er supply lines for the Battle of Guadalcanal. But only Milne Bay, New Guinea, and Espiritu Santo, our New Hebrides base, are within range of fighter planes carry ing extra gas supplies. Other wise it . is up to aircraft car riers to bring in the smaller planes. To keep 'em flying, Guadal canal's planes need oil and' gas, ammunition and bombs all of which must be -brought in by vulnerable tankers and supply ships.'
