Last month, it was reported, tho bureau received requests for 151 reports In connection with tho selective service program. These Investigations mainly concern applications for defer ments. Tho welfare bureau in vestigates the validity of a defer ment claim. The commission studied the question of supplying tdbes to the welfare workers, when it was reported the rationing board had rejected an application for tubes. It is possible for the workers to get tire recaps, but not tubes, it was stated. At a meeting this week, the rationing board will be asked to reconsider the application. CRESCENT LAKE With thunder clouds rolling over the Cascades, forest service men to day packed the lookout up on Odcll butte, and thus completed the roster of lookouts manned in the Crescent district for 1942. Bill Jenkins of Gilchrist, only three weeks out from Mississip pi, is the new lookout, replacing Johnnie Myers, who is the new headquarters fireman at Cres cent. . Jimmie Sterns of Lapine, Is on Deer butte .but will leave July 15 for the army air corps.- Gil bert Hunt of Bend,- is stationed at Davis lake and Ed Cavln of Crescent, is on Davis mountain lookout. Oscar Paulson of Sa lem, is the fireman at Crescent lake and C. A. Abbott of Nyssa, is on Walker mountain. Maiden peak is not to be manned this seasoa Although there will be no CCC camp at Odell lake this year, five-man .suppression crew will be permanently stationed there for the summer. Members of this crew include Pat Metke of Bend, foreman: Stewart Gil christ; Jay Glatt, Davcy Sump- ter and Don Carter.
