Faust, roiearch associate In the bureau of business research at the Unlvorslty of Oregon. The entiro Increase was due to permits for defense housing in Portland, which accounted for OS per cent of the total permits Issued. The other 40 cities issued permits with total valuation of .only $108,300, a decrease of 71 per cent as compared with the already low level of April, Faust aid. Permits for new residential construction totalled $1,287,423, an .Increase of 100.1 per cent over April; new non-residential permits were $200,887, a de crease of 40.3 por cent; nnd per mits for additions, alterations and repairs were $131,408, a de crease of 20.3 per cent.
