J. 10 No. 77 Malin Maxine Haley, student at Arm strong's College of Business, Berkeley, is spending a two week's vacation with her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Perry Haley. Mrs. Vaclav Kalina and two children, accompanied by her mother, Mrs. Elzie Roberts, have returned from Portland and Albany. While north the children were left with Mrs. Ka lina's sister, Mrs. John Freitag, Albany, while Mrs. Kalina, as sociate matron of Malin chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, . at tended grand chapter at Port land. Mrs. Frank Carey, Mer rill, worthy matron of the Malin chapter, also attended. Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Smith have returned from a vacation spent in San Diego and at Rich ardson Hot Springs. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Jakes have gone to Portland, where Jakes will be employed in the shipyards. He has recently been employed at the Malin mercantile. Mrs. Jakes is ex pected to: return here to teach in the elementary school next fall. Mis. Jack Rati iff and Ray Van Meter served in the school election board Monday. Voting was light. Mrs. J, Perry Hnlcy was host ess to the Helping Hand society at the last meeting, when it was voted to meet only once every four weeks for an indefinite time, Tho society members have met for an ill day meeting and luncheon every two weeks sinco tho society was organized about 30 years ago. The next meeting will be at the home of Mrs. Clarence Hundley on the state line. . . . Mr. and Mrs. Hans Elvlg have' returned from Portland, where they visited for two weeks with Mrs. Elvig's sons and daughter. Elvig announced upon his return that he had purchased a 20-acre tract of land i v tne vicinity of Newport, where he plans to spend a bit of time fishing after completion of a summer home. Mrs. Joe LaClair was. hostess last weekend for the Happy Hour card club. First prize went to Mrs. R. A. Rigor and second to Mrs. Everett Jones. Both prizes wore defense stamps. Miss Barbara Lee Bowen of Tionesta, is visiting the Jack Chapman family. She is Chap man's great-niece. J. D. Hammond of Macdoel, spent last week with his daugh ter; Mrs. Karl Friedrich. On Sunday the Friedrich family took him to Dunsmuir to visit another daughter. Mrs. W. A. Hartlerode and son William, are spending a couple of weeks with relatives in Alameda, Calif. Chairmen to serve for the summer months were announced at the June meeting of the Wey erhaeuser Camp 4 PTAi They include: membership, Mrs. Gor don Good; program, Mrs. Doris Cooper; defense, Mrs. Hal Ogle; card club, Mrs. W. M. Jones; and recreation, the four elective of ficers. Donald Friedrich was asked to care for the softballs and bats for the next month. Mrs. Bill Stacy has offered to manage the library, which Is now sponsored by the PTA. It is open each Monday evening from 7 until 8 o'clock. Each day our strength grows and our efficiency increases. Miss Evelyne Haas has made application for entrance for nurse's training in St. Luke's hospital in San Francisco, and if preparing for entrance examina tions with a course at the Uni versity of California at Berke ley, Mrs. Marvin Thomas has ac cepted the nomination for presi dent of the auxiliary of Tula lake Legion post and will be up for election with other officers, June 23. Students home for the sum mer vacation from colleges and universities include Carl Coul son from Stanford; Barbara Bentley, University of Oregon; Maxine Barks, Stockton Junior college; Bob McClymonds, Sac ramento Junior college; Patricia Thomas and Virginia Hooper, Oregon State college. Mr. and Mrs. Merton J. Brown are spending several days in San Francisco, where they are visit ing their daughter, Ardyce Brown, employed as a secretary with the Baldwin Piano com pany.
