Tabcr, master of the National grange, urged Americans today to "stop the struggle for prices, wages and nrofits" and help the government achieve unlimited defense pro duction and redeem its pledge of material aid to those fighting Hitler. The grange," he said, "chal lenges labor, business and fin ance to join with agriculture in unlimited production." Earlier, a message from Presi dent Roosevelt was read to the grange delegates, asserting it was the nation's supreme task to make the ideals of "a proper equality, equity and fairness prevail through democratic ac tion and to mane America "strong and free and neighborly in a changing world." "We can do it.- we must ao it. We are doing it," tne presi dent said. Mr. Roosevelt added that he had been a member of the grange for more than 25 years, ana continued: "In the course of my member ship I have often thought of the creed and purposes which mem bers of .the order adopted and announced at their national or ganization meeting in 1873 at Georgetown, D. C. "'We desire said the louna- ers. 'a nroner equality, equity and fairness; protection for the weak, restraint upon the strong. These are American ideals, the very essence of American inde pendence.' - "All of us subscribe," the pres ident added, "to these ideals and principles. Our supreme task is to make them prevail uirougn democratic action. "I know that grange members, as well as all other American citizens, will continue to do their part to make and keep America strong and free and neighborly in a changing world. Taber, in a keynote speech prepared for the opening session of the 75th annual meeting of the farm organization, added: "No person has the right by word or deed to slow' up pro duction in national defense, or to check the flow of materials that our government has solemn ly promised to Britain and her allies." George (Buck) Gillispie was here from Fort Lewis over the weekend visiting at the home of his mother, Mrs. M. M. Stuart. Mr. and Mrs. Miles Blalock made a trip to Klamath Falls one day last week. Jesse Roberts started logging again this week out of Dog mountain. Earl Hobbs is building a new barn on his place in the Vernon district. The barn will be 26 by 36 feet in size, and will have room for 14 cows. Doc Stockburger and Mrs, Deane Home made a trip to Ashland last Friday.. Virginia Maddock has been absent from the Vernon school because of a severe case of sinus trouble. Dr. and Mrs. J. G. Patterson and children of Klamath Falls were guests at the home of Mr, and Mrs. M. M. Stuart last week end. Only 40 out of 105 registered voters in the Vernon precinct voted at the special election last Tuesday. The percentage voting in the union district was even lower, with 44 out of approxi mately 160 registered voters casting their ballots. Rallying signs appeared at the start, especially for steels and a number of "blue chips" which were under relatively severe pressure Wednesday. Advances ranged from frac tions to around points for fa vorites in the forenoon with dealings fairly fast. Prices re ceded in many instances after mid-day and scattered heaviness here and there made for a some what irregular close. Transfers approximated 800,000 shares. Among moderately good share performers were US Steel, Southern Pacific, Great North ern, American Can, Westing house, Allied Chemical, J. C. Penney, U. S. Gypsum. General Foods, Montgomery Ward and Consolidated Aircraft. American Telephone, Scars Roebuck and General Electric slipped to new 1941 bottoms. Laggards included Standard Oil (N.
