Amest, state regent, who addressed the members of Eulalona chapter, at the dinner Monday evening, at the Pelican Grille banquet room. , Mrs. Amest told the Daugh- ten that they must study the constitution, the bill of rights, In order to know what they want to defend. The work carried on by the national committees was briefly cov ered by the speaker, and the necessity for work among the junior American citizens was stressed. ' An unique and most en joyable program of musie was given during the dinner. Mimeographed copies of four teen songs of the Revolution ary period, and four of the War of 1812, were placed at each cover for members to fol low, while Victor records of these compositions were played. These copies and rec- . ords were used through the courtesy of Wendell B. Smith, of the English department of the Klamath Union high school, who has collected thera for use In his teach ing. ' Mrs. Don Zumwalt, chapter chairman of the ad vancement of American mu sic, was responsible for this part of the program. Opening exercises included prayer by Mrs. G. Logan Black, chaplain; salute to the flag, led by Mrs. Harry Goel ler; recitation of American's creed led by Mrs. Wilbur A. Jones. Mrs. William Dawson Foster, chapter regent, pre sided at the dinner. ' Mrs. Robert Odell, in be half of the chapter, presented an Oregon plate to Mrs. .'Arnest. Mrs. Bernard W. ' ZolUnan, a recent bride, re ceived gift from the chap- - ter, presented by Mrs. Thomas Hampton. Color scheme for the table decorations was orange, carried out with graceful arrangements of mar igolds, goldenrod, and sun flowers, and tall orange tap ers.. .Seated at the head table with Mrs. Arnest were Mrs. .Foster, Mrs. Robert E. Wat ;tenburg, organizing regent; .Mrs. A. L. Berkeley, state re cording secretary; Mrs. Z. W. Dixon, chapter vice-regent; -Mrs. H. A. Nitschelm, state chairman of real Daughters. These women wore lovely corsages, the gift of the chap ter. : . . The chapter voted to in- - vita the next state confer ence to Klamath Falls, Feb ruary 17 and IB, 1942. This conference will mark the end of Mrs. 'Arnest's regime as state regent, and she ex pressed a desire to hold it in Klamath Falls. The state regent had on dis play a musical composition, "Home Defense March," and si publication entitled "His toric Restorations of the . Daughters of the American Revolution," by Lewis Bar rington, published in 1941, both of which she recom mended to the members. She presented fifty loyalty let ter stamps to the chapter. The National Society DAR has requested each subordi nate chapter to properly ob serve Constitution day, Sep tember the seventeenth. Mrs. Alfred Collier, chapter chair man of this committee, will entertain the chapter on the afternoon of this day, from three to five o'clock, at her home at 196S LeRoy street. Mrs. Foster and Mrs. Harry Ackley, chairman of Ameri canism, will arrange the pro gram which will include brief talks on different phases of the constitution and the bill of rights. ,. Society Plans Program, Tea Interesting Topic Is An nounced for Meeting September 25 An especially interesting topic, "Women in a Changing World" has been announced for the next meeting of the Women's Society of Christian Service on Thursday after noon, September the twenty fifth, in the parlors of the First Methodist church. A sil ver tea will also be given, commemorating the anniver sary of the organization, it was announced by the presi dent, Mrs. R. P. Ellingson. The program topic is a pag eant presentation written to show that women leaders in all realms of life have been church women or women of God, whence the training and vision came. Characters to be portrayed in the pantomime are: Woman the homemaker, Susannah Wesley; woman the educator, Mary Lyon; women of healing and mercy, Florence Nightin gale and Clara Barton; woman the citizen, Frances Willard; woman the voter and agitator, Susan B. Anthony; woman the social worker, Jane Addams; the handicapped life, . Helen Keller; woman the citizen, Madame Chiang Kai-Shek; woman the individual, Mrs. Paul Edwards from the Wom en's Society of Christian Service. Musical numbers will be presented under the direction of Mrs. W. L. Terwilliger. Mrs. Paul Edwards will give a ten-minute discussion on in ter - denominational coopera tive work which will be of interest to the women of the various churches of the city, ' who are cordially invited to attend this program. A short business meeting will be held at two o'clock; the program will start at three o'clock and will be followed by the silver tea. MRS. MORRIS COMPLIMENTED ON BIRTHDAY Mrs. W. B. Hunt and Mrs. C. Year's Program Is Told at Luncheon Klamath Falls Woman's Library Club Members To Hear Interesting Numbers in 1941-42 When members of the Klamath Falls Woman's Library club met in the beautifully decorated Willard hotel ballroom for luncheon and the fall flower show Monday, they heard the interesting program which has been arranged for the coming year by Mrs. Matt H. Rauw, program chairman. The entire year's schedule is given here for the benefit of those who did not hear the announcement: September 8 FRIENDS HONOR MRS. HELFRICH DURING VISIT Complimenting Mrs. Prince Helfrich who has been visit ing in the city from her home at Vida on the McKenzie river, Mrs. Lawrence Rolph entertained a group of friends who had been classmates in high school, on Wednesday evening at her home on North Eighth street. Sojourners Form Unit Plans Made To Assist With Red Cross Ac tivities The Sojourners club held Its regular meeting at the Willard hotel on Wednesday afternoon, September the tenth. Mrs. Marshall Farmer presided at the brief business meeting when it was voted that at least one prize given at every meeting would be United States savings stamps. A talk was presented by Mrs. C. Edward Dennis, pro duction chairman for the Red Cross, who spoke of tho work being accomplished for civil ian relief and asked the help and cooperation of the club. During the discussion by the members it was decided a Red Cross unit would be form ed, to meet on the first and third Wednesday afternoons of each month at Red Cross head quarters in the armory. For those not interested in sewing or knitting. It was cxplnlncd that there are many other jobs. Possibility of formation of a motor corps and canteen was also discussed. Mrs. Dennis stated that the headquarters aro open from nine o'clock in tho morning until five o'clock In the after noon and suggested that any one interested would be wel come to spend the entire day. Newcomers to tho city are especially invited to join this Red Cross unit which the So journers are sponsoring, and it is sincerely hoped that those who have not desired to play cards will meet with the group at the armory. Mrs. Harry Wayne was appointed chair man and will announce the members of her committee at a later date. Activities Of C. of C. Told Soroptimists Honor Recent Bride During Luncheon Earl C. Reynolds, secretary of tho Klamath county cham ber of commerce, wus the guest speaker at tho weekly luncheon ot the Soroptlmlsl club on Thursday at tho Wil lard hotel when ho outlined the activities and purpose of his organization. Mr. Reynolds pointed out that one of tho chamber's projects not often mentioned is the citizen student training which has resulted in the training of twonty-elght stu dent pilots in the post year. In addition to advertising to reach the tourist trade, ha listed tho various highwuy projects secured through tho efforts of this orgumzatiun, the Tule lake tunnel project that will drain twenty thou sand acres of productive farm land, and the airport project that was obtained only after much effort on the part of the chamber. Another inter esting project he mentioned is the vocational training course In office procedure offered high school students each spring. Activities managed by the chamber of commerce he list ed as the Klamath Retail Mer chants bureau, the Junior chamber of commerce, and the Klamath branch of the Oregon State Motor association. Mr. Reynolds himself is the god father of the Sojourners club, an organization for newcom ers to the city. Mrs. Clara Shaw as pro gram chairman for tho day, presented Mrs. Cathcrlno Guy lord Brumbaugh with a Mix master as a wedding gift from the Soroptimists. Other beautifully-wrapped gifts for the recent bride were displayed on a small table, surrounded by a miniature wedding party, an arrangemont prepared by Mrs. Sylvia McClclInn, social chairman. Tho president, Mrs. Ruby Lyle, appointed Mrs. Eileen Hicks as social chairman for the remainder of the year. Guests were Mrs. Marie Pike and Mrs. Ruth Bathlany.
