July 18, 1940 PAGE EIGHT Tulelake Guild Plans Program for 1940-41 Interesting Silver Tea Scheduled for Wednesday Afternoon in Community Presbyterian Church ' TULELAKE A silver tea, to be held in the annex of the Community Presbyterian church, Wednesday afternoon, July the seventeenth, is planned by the Community Guild with Mrs. Merle Ramage, Mrs. H. T. Street, Mrs. Edgar Osborne and Mrs. Merton J. Brown, in charge of the program, featuring musical talent of Tulelake. ' Mrs. A. E. March 19 Winning side in membership contests enter tains the losers. TULELAKE Miss Lois Marian Scott, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert M. Scott, Tulelake, became the bride on Saturday, July the sixth at Reno, of Mr. Lyla Haas, also of Tulelake. Gowned in a navy sheer en semble with white accessories, the bride wore a corsage of gardenias. She was unat tended. . Mrs. Haas, a graduate of the Tulelake High school, attendeS Western Business college at Sacramento, returning her about a month ago. Mr. Haas, a graduate of the Medford High school, is associated with the Tulelake Reporter. The young couple will make their home west of Tulelake. Hostess to Sewing Circle Mrs. Ben Shepherd was hostess to the Sew and Rip Sewing circle Friday, June the twelfth, at Moore park and the next meeting will be held August ninth at the park with Mrs. Ona Bagley as hostess. The afternoon was spent in animated conversation be tween old friends, and coffee was served at a late hour. Those present were Mrs. Irene Boyd, Mrs. Laura Cox, Mrs. L. DORRIS Among the "firsts" of Dorris were the babies who attended the party given Thursday afternoon by Mrs. Minnine Wilkins In hon or of Ross Boyd's first birth day. PLANS PARTY FOR JULY I6TH At their regular business meeting on the first Tuesday in the month, the Bonanza Woman's club perfected plans to give their regular "penny" card party, on the afternoon of July the sixteenth. The affair is for the pur pose of raising a little money for the benefit and upkeep of the library. Bridge, pinochle and other games will , be played. Means have . been provided for the care of any small children whose mothers find it necessary to bring with them in order to attend the party. Club Enjoys Bridge Luncheon The Thursday Contract club met July the eleventh at the home of Mrs. Stella Dryden on North Eleventh street when a bridge lunch eon was enjoyed by Mrs. Bertha Hewitt, Mrs. Emma Martin, Mrs. Pearl Yorkland, Mrs. Clara McPherren, Mrs. Beulah Agee, Mrs. Idoline Schupp and Mrs. Myrtle Dun ham. High score was received by Mrs. Yorkland, second high by Mrs. Dunham and traveling by Mrs. Agee. The club's next meeting will be at the home of. Mrs. Hewitt on Manzanita street. : Juveniles of Neighbors - of Woodcraft have postponed their meeting of July the fif teenth until a later date when a picnic party has been planned for Moore park. Mrs. Paul Buck selected '"Living in the Oul-of-Doors" as her topic of discussion un der the general subject for the evening, "Niituro Somo Phase of the Out-of Doors " She Illustrated her talk with In spirational experiences from her recreational wotk as Girl Scout leader. She pointed out that "some people do not have the ability to see beauty" and stressed that however drab the condition of ordinary living might be, there were always tho com pensating beauties ol nature. Intriguing her audience with a few sentences spoken In the original language of the Warm Spring Indians, Mrs Logan Black then recounted drama tic Incidents from her child hood as a daughter of a mis sionary teacher among those Indians. Mrs. Ruth Temple, as toast mistress of the evening Intro duced the speakers. Mrs. W. H. Hlbbard, club critic, then gave her criticism. She announced that each speaker would receive written criticism and would l-e graded on a percentage basis, accord ing to delivery, volte, audi ence contact, and subject mat ter. Mrs. A. J. Voye, as "Word Engineer" would grade pro nunciation and enunciation. Grading on language and vocabulary would be given by Mrs. Paul Buck. Mrs. Hlb bard said that the criticism sheets could then be filed for future reference. During the dinner hour the president, Mrs. Voye, con ducted a brief business ses sion.
