Trading In the butter market Is showing price advances with all cube prices higher, for the luto session of the produce ex change. The sdvance of lc pound In the buying price on butterfat followed. ' '. Actuul shortage of good dual ity largo eggs Is Influencing the price upward locally as well as In the markets of . the country generally. The supply of me diums Is gaining but pullets are decreasing. Demand for live chickens re mained good and prices in gen eral, continued to be maintained. There were only moderate offer ings aside from springers which are aomewhat better than other lines. While only fraction! change Is suggested in the market for coun- try-klllod calvea Insofar as price Is concerned, there waa a trifle easier tone with more offerings recently shown. Other lines were steady. Generally steady tone was con tinued here for potatoes although no real snap to the buying by retailors was suggested. Arrivals of Deschutes to date have shown very disappointing quality. Apples in heavy supply were selling at extremely low prices. t.rape market was generally firmer to higher, Including Con corde. Oranges were up about a dime a case. , . Arizona grapefruit was due for the first time this season and nominally priced 63.75 for 80s. Sweet potatoes -were higher; with California growers together and naming a minimum price. Balea of walnuts in Portland were practically nominal as a result of the trade fight and shaded values. Some rather good southern Oregon casabaa were being offer ed around 2c pound. Cauliflower market was a trifle easier locally and for carlots, 1 Portland Produce . PORTLAND, Oct, 21. Oct. 21, UP - Speeding motors ran away from most other contestants In todays atock market, although scattered specialties were close seconds. It was one of the most active sessions In more than a year. numerous "new highs" were re corded, with gains ranging from one to three points or so among the favorites: The close was firm. Transfers approximated 2,800,000 shares. Buying orders swamped the ticker tape early with a business of about 800,000 shares in the first hour. There was consider able profit taking, but this failed to shake the leaders to any great extent. It was observed that most rails, utilities, steels and coppers were unable to get anywhere. Economic optimism helped sen timent as well as reports from Europe and Africa that peace moves were Impending. Cheering also was the estimate of the American Iron ft Steel Institute that mill operations this -week would be 1.4 points above the rate last week, at the highest point since last February. Besides the motor equities sec tion, demand also appeared for the aircrafts, textiles and a few chemicals.
