Reginald Denny and Fifl Dor say bead a daizllng cast In "Thoae Three French Girl," Metro-Goldwyo-Mayer' captivat ing force of life in Gay Paree, which will open Sunday at the Pine Tree Theatre for two day. The plot of this talkie farce, concocted by Dale Van Every and Arthur Freed, 1 reported to contain a laugh In every reel and a howl In every line of It dialogue, which wa written by p. O. Wodebouse, Internation ally known hnmoriat. The action center about the fun-loving nephew of a British earl, played by Denny, who goea to Pari for a good time and find It In the company of two American ex-doughboy and three charming mademolaelle. Complication occur when the nephew bring the girl to hi uncle' home In the attempt to Interest hi rich relative In back ing a modiste's shop. All would have gone well bad not the uncle fallen In love with the AT THE RAINBOW WILLIAM HAINES end LEILA HVAMS in WAV OUT WEST . The advenvnre or a carnival barker who become Initiated In to the myaterle of cowboy life bring In the laughha In William Halnea' latest talking comedy, "Way Out Wert," which will open Sunday at the Rainbow Theatre with a caat which In clude Leila Hyama, Polly Moran, Cliff Edwards, Francis X. Bush man, Jr., Vera Marsh, Charles Middleton and other. The picture which waa filmed on an Hop! Indian reservation near Gallup, New Mexico, result In a unique experience tor mem bers ot the caat, namely that of working before the camera tor everal daya In game masks. The reason tor this la that the plot called for the filming of a big aeene during a windstorm, and aa everyone who I familiar with thla desert country knos-s. when the' wind starts blowing here, sand file through the ail at the speed of bullet. Direo lions In the script required Hatnea and Mis Hyama to drive an auto out on the desert, tep out and run against the wind, V'hlle actually before the cem ent, the player ot course dis carded the gauie, bat the masks were resumed the Instant Di rector Fred Nlblo (topped the scene. The fun In this scene Is .md np with misunderstood Inten tions, for Halnea la trying to c. very girl whom the nephew had picked out for himself. But all the difficulties) are ironed out in the end In a rollicking man ner. Cliff Edward and Edward Brophy are reported to be noth ing lea than "a acream" a the two doughhboy who want to see what Paris I Ilka without M. P. 'a; George Grosamlth and Peter Gawthorne are ald to be equally funny a the befuddled earl and hi cockney butler re spectively, while the remaining member of the girl trio, Yola d'Avrll and Sandra Ravel, add their drolleries to the lot The Cosmopolitan production waa directed by Harry Bean mont, who ha Incorporated a fashion show which I aaid to outdo even the lavish one of hi recent uoce, "Our Blushing Brides." The picture boast on song number. "You're Simply Dellsh," composed by Arthur Freed and Joseph Meyer and used a a specialty by Mis Do rear. the Injured heroine to a doctor while her friend, thinking he 1 trying to kidnap her, pepper the air close to his head with out let. The ridlcnloux antic of the "dude" cowboy aided and abet ted by the equally comic Clin Edward and. Polly Moran are said to make this picture on of tialne funniest to date. AT THE PELICAN Barroom brawl, spectacular rescue at ea, pounding break er, eerie palls of fog, fo'cnstle bantering, ahore frolic and an Interesting romance give "Way for a Sailor" a background ot wlft action, comedy and drama. John Gilbert play the lead in the new Metro-Goldwyn-Maer production which will open Sun. day at the Pelican Theatre and Wallace Beery Is seen In the chief character role, that ot "Tripod," roughneck freighter eamon, whose rivalry with Gil bert In the matter ot sweet heart result In free-for-all tights and other diverting oc currence, The cast also Include Leila Hyams in the femtnine lead Jim Tully, the writer. In hi Initial screen appearance; and Polly Moran and Doris Lloyd as two of the "sweetheart." Sam Wood In directing the picture from an adaptation ot the well-known novel by Albert Richard Wetjen, went after real Ism In his atmosphere, making most of the scene aboard four ship chartered tor the film. Other sequences are laid in vari ous porta from England to China, and along a beautiful rocky coastline where the love scene were enacted. The rescues at sea by breeches buoy were staged with the co operation ot the United States coast guard, two steamers. freighter and a passenger vessel. , being used In the episode. Other scene took place aboard a whal ing ship, on the docks where ocean carriers loaded and un loaded cargoes. All ot these scenes, with a few exceptions, were filmed at night and in tog, the chilled night wind coming In from seaward, meeting at the harbor with the warm California desert air, and making the Liverpool moisture effect de sired. Particularly difficult was the recording In the fog, since the strange effect of the density of the atmosphere on aound some times produced echoes that dis torted dialogue and sound ef fect beyond recording possibil ities. This, however, was over come by the use of sounding board and special microphone equipment. Corbett Is Given Nod Over Walker AN FRANCISCO, Feb. 21, (A P) Young Corbett. Freno wsl terweight aouthpaw, came thru with a victory In the first de fense ot hi recently acquired atate welterweight championship last night, by punching bis way to a ten round decision over Panlie Walker. Trenton. K. J. The fight marked Corbett' return to th ring after a month' layoff due to Illness, and dis closed him aa a new type nf fighter. Instead of laying back and winning by superior counter punching. Walker's cautious style forced the Fresnan to tore the fighting. Corbett accepted the offensive role and kept Walker on the re ceiving end of most ot th pnnchea thrown during the bout. The pair met once before. In Los Angeles, thla encounter ended in draw. The largest Indoor erowd, ap proximately 11,000 persons, wit nessed the fight.
