Jim Bagby was th pitcher In that game and 1 never could quite make np my mind as to whether Jim should have felt proud or ashamed ot that performance. It was In 1920, you will re member, that Bagby won 31 games for Cleveland. This Is a lot ot games on the winning side of the ledger and any pitcher who accomplishes the feat must be blessed with more then aver age luck. Bagby surely hsd It that year. It he blanked the op position, the Indisns would some how manage to get one or more runs. It the opposition found Jim for eight runs, the Indians would find ways and means to get him nine or more. Bagby's good luck continued with him In the 1920 world ser ies, though for a time it seemed as it Dam Fortune intended to slip him nothing but frowns. Se lected to pitch the second game of the series. Bagby was pitted against Burleigh Grimes. He held Bowlers' Improve As Season Advances The third week of the Automo tive Bowling league at the Klam ath Recreation showed consider able Improvement In the scores of some of the bowlers. As a matter ot fact, Bagby should hare been credited with a shutout. Brooklyn scored a run In the ninth when a ground ball that "Doc" Johnston should hsve handled, retiring the side, was credited as a hit and re sulted In a run. I am told Jim took "Doc" to task in the club house after the game, while the rest ot the club roared with Ianghter. Sarpolls finally succumbed, .lying prone on the mat and had to be carried from the ring. After an examination, an ambulance was summoned and he was taken to a hospital for an X-ray examination. This game waa the turning point, aa It removed Grimes, Brooklyn ace, 'from the picture and Cleveland won the sixth game and the aerie the following day, 1-0. Turn back baseball's pages and try to find another gam like It from a "freak" standpoint. Tomorrow: "The Most Thrill ing Game I Ever Saw Pitched." it seemed as It nothing could stop him from being returned the winner. After 20 minutes wrest ling for the second fail, Sarpolls attempted a flying scissors, but Lewis sidestepped aud the doctor crashed heavily on the boards. He was stunned, but gamely came back. He was an easy victim for Lewis, but In spite of his weak ened condition, wiggled out of at least a dozen headlocks before he collapsed. Sarpolls Aggressor Sarpolls was the aggressor throughout and forced the wrest ling at every turn. He used his flying body scissors to good ad vantage as well aa a standing wrlstlock.
