AVhlle running a raccoon horseback with a companion near the Mill creek school house in Quartz valley, lawrcnce Goodwin, 30. of Quartz volley, sustained a fractur ed skull when he struck a tree with his head, dying within 20 minutes after the accident. Goodwin was trying to gain the lead when he leaned over the side of his horse to avoid being struck by limbs from another tree and his head crashed against the second tree with terrific force. Medical aid was summoned, but Goodwin failed to rally. Goodwin is survived by a widow and children. He was a veteran of the world war and he married Miss Nellie Henry of Quarts valley sev eral years ago. Funeral services were held at Fort Jones. Disease Increase Is Noted in September A decided increase in disease over the two previous months was reveal ed this morning in the September health report of the county health unit. Fifty four cases were reported to County Health Officer Dr. G. S. New coin during September, whereas the August report reveals but 31 cases and July 19. Of the 51 cases. 33 were placed un der quarantine. Nine typhoid cases were under observation of the county health unit; 12 scarlet fever cases: four chicken pox cases; 11 of whoop ing cough, and one of measleB.
